Our Middle School Counseling Services
The mission of the Livingston Public Schools Counseling Program is to provide support services that promote the social, emotional, and academic growth for all students. Counselors help build a foundation for lifelong learning in a culturally sensitive environment by fostering self-respect, awareness of others, self-efficacy and access to individual interventions and community resources. Our vision is for students to understand career pathways as well as how to navigate a global society, make informed decisions and effect successful transitions. By working in partnership with educators, parents and the community, school counselors assist all students in achieving the skills and knowledge necessary to be productive, contributing members of society.
The Middle School Counselor provides support and services in a variety of ways. Working in collaboration with teachers and parents, counselors work in a "team approach" to ensure communication, questions and concerns are addressed. Middle school can be a time of change for students, which can be seen in academics, social, and/or emotional ways. The mix of your child's physical development, maturation, emotions, social changes and growth comes at a time when parents and teachers are calling for greater self-reliance and a greater sense of responsibility. Middle school offers our students an opportunity to safely work through problems individually, as well as in groups. For more sensitive issues, School Counselors provide a safe space to support students. As students navigate their way through the learning process they become more comfortable and sure of their ability to identify and resolve situations they face. In doing so, students identify personal strengths and develop his/her sense of competence and confidence. In short, our Jr. Lancers are beginning to develop that all important quality for successful living and learning: resilience.
