As part of Livingston Public Schools celebration of the United States’ 250th birthday, students across grade-levels within the district will have the opportunity to become personal historians and discover firsthand accounts of a very special year in American history: 1976.
That was the year our nation celebrated its 200th birthday – the Bicentennial. People across the country, including right here in Livingston, celebrated in big ways. By interviewing Livingston community members lived through that time, students will hear their stories and collect amazing memories that will help us understand what 1976 was really like.
Livingston Public Schools is honored to welcome Professor Kurt Piehler to work with our staff and students this year to support their research and work on the "250 Ambassadors" project, A renowned expert in oral history, Professor Piehler has conducted extensive work with World War II veterans, capturing personal narratives that deepen our understanding of the past.
Professor Piehler's expertise will help LPS students illuminate the power of oral histories by bringing to light the experiences and perspectives of individuals whose stories are often left out of traditional history books. Through this collaboration, students will gain the skills to uncover and preserve the untold stories that surround us, fostering connections across generations and enriching our shared history.
