Liverpool’s Department of Transportation has assembled an initiative to make the transition to electric buses. An informational meeting was held on October 19th in the district office board room. “Our emphasis is on ensuring that this transformation is not just sustainable but also equitable,” Says Sean Brown, Director of Transportation.
Liverpool’s Department of Transportation has the intention to create a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment. Of course this is not a quick switch; this transition could take up to 10 years, with the estimated full transition by 2035. Bus staff such as: drivers, attendants and their subs, will receive new training opportunities, team building and overall workforce development.
New busing may not affect current middle and high school students, but it will definitely make an impact on current and future drivers as well as future students. Not only is this more efficient in sustainable energy, this puts a green step forward for students who chose to ride the bus.
Liverpool is making the leap of faith, but will other districts in Central New York follow in their footsteps? School districts will be prohibited from purchasing diesel fuel buses in the year 2027, and then must reach zero emission by 2035 according to Spectrum News. Liverpool’s Director of Transportation, Sean Brown is driving this clean busing change, which is inspiring other CNY districts to follow closely behind. Cicero North Syracuse is already making a plan to convert to electric buses as well.
There was an informational meeting held on October 19th, 2023 where more information was conveyed to the attendees, however, if you missed this meeting more information about this change is shown on the Liverpool Central School Districts website. Here's to cleaner, and greener transportation for the students of Central New York!
