Why Do So Many People Care About Stranger Things?
By: Tyler Brown
Stranger Things was a series created by the Duffer Brothers first released in 2016 about a group of young friends witnessing supernatural forces and secret government exploits in Indiana in the 1980’s.
One of the most top rated and most watched series in the last decade, having over a billion viewers across all five seasons, making it one of the most watched Netflix shows ever.
But why do so many people care about Stranger Things?
Over the years, Stranger Things has been a big part of people’s childhood and teenage years. When the final season ended, many fans were emotional because the show they have spent years waiting for another season, is now over.
Many kids believe they cannot get over Stranger Things due to the nostalgia. Many viewers were also kids when the first season began, and they watched the characters grow up as well. Watching the final season felt like a chapter of many people’s childhood was closing.
Another reason many people will hate moving on from Stranger Things is the characters themselves. Each actor had a unique personality and many people that watched Stranger Things were able to correspond with one of them. Many characters like Eleven, Dustin, Mike, and Steve all faced struggles with friendships throughout the seasons. But as the seasons progressed, all of the characters matured like the viewers did and we could still relate to them. Saying goodbye to the characters feels like losing a longtime friend.
The characters also had an amazing bond after being co-workers for years. The friendships are a major criteria in the story. They protect each other, fight for each other, no matter what the case is. This shows the maturity and importance of loyalty. But some of the actors even started dating or became a thing during or after the show, which made fans even happier.
The hype around Stranger Things has always been there. Even during the first trailer. It became so big within the first week of the first season dropping. Anytime a new season got leaked, people would talk about it for months, assuming, guessing, impatiently waiting. When the release date came around for a new season, people screamed in excitement. The series always stayed alive.
Many songs that were also used in Stranger Things exploded, no matter how old. For example, “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush was made in 1985 but is now on the top of streaming charts in 2026.
Many fans wish there was a new season due to the ending. Conspiracy theories spiraled on if Eleven truly did die or if it was all an illusion set by 008. But we will truly never know. Many people think that there will be another episode, but there never will be.
Stranger Things was something people could look forward to for years. It brought people together, comforted people, and most importantly memories. The show became a symbol of childhood and how important it is to always stick with your friends no matter the circumstances. Stranger Things will always be remembered by multiple generations and is still a top viewed series weeks after the season finale.
