Meet (and watch, and hear) Team StarKid!
Since their first showings of A Very Potter Musical in 2009, the theatre group StarKid has amassed a large number of fans through their original, full-length musicals that are free to view on YouTube. They initially gained popularity through their other parody works, such as Holy Musical, B@tman! and The Oregon Trail. Apart from the parodies however, several of their more modern musicals have taken place in a shared universe and location—Hatchetfield, a town where missing people are just as common as apocalyptic events. These shows include Black Friday, Nerdy Prudes Must Die, and The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, the latter of which was recently reprised and can currently be accessed via digital rental until its free public release, said to be coming within the next few months or early next year.
The StarKid cast is full of many talented actors, including a couple that you may recognize, such as Angela Giarratana, who is also part of the cast of the Smosh YouTube channel and has been in other short films, as well as Joey Richter, who has found himself guest-starring in a number of kids’ television shows in years past such as Officer Petey in Jessie, and the Time Jerker in Henry Danger. As of late, Jeff Blim has been in charge of the creation of the musicals’ music and lyrics, which retain the humor of the productions themselves and will have you listening to them on loop.
Whether you’re into a bit of horror or looking to see a whole new take on a familiar franchise you already enjoy, StarKid musicals are hilarious all-around good watches that I would recommend to any musical fan.
