From Toy to Tool: Is the NeeDoh Here to Stay?
By: Ella Gagne
Although the fidget company was originally created in 1968, it has just recently become popular with many teenagers. The NeeDoh fidgets first blew up in 2023, specificallyfrom their newest fidget, the Nice Cube.
TikTok videos and trends featured the new fidget, making it a “must have” for many and resulted in a sellout worldwide. Though the NeeDoh sparked popularity from their ice cube fidget years ago, it seems that just recently they are making a comeback.
Teenagers have recently begun bringing in these fidget toys to school. Hallways, lunches, and even classrooms have the feature of the viral fidget toy. Even some teachers have become hooked on them. Instead of just the viral Nice Cube fidget, the other fidgets such as the Fuzz Ball, Dream Drop, Snow Ball Crunch, and Gum Drop have all gained popularity amongst this age group.
Despite this toy overtaking the internet, teachers tend to have the same concern. Is this fidget a distraction or a tool in classrooms? Many students tend to squish these satisfying fidgets during classrooms, which give teachers a major concern, especially after other distractingfads such as fidget spinners and slime.
Despite this concern, the fidget has been proved to be more of a tool than a distraction. Unlike other toys, the NeeDoh is completely silent, allowing students to provide their full attention to class while also using this fidget. This fidget is also great for stress relief.
Squeezing the fidget helps your body release stress and anxiety. It's almost like a “reset button” for your brain. Overall, it seems that the
Needoh toy has proved itself to be more helpful than harmful in a classroom environment. Fads usually come and go, but will the NeeDoh be one to stay?
Right now the NeeDoh looks promising as it will most likely continue to stay a trend. It has been proven to be the most helpful fad in a long time. It doesn't seem that NeeDoh will be going anywhere anytime soon.
