In December 2025, Gunther earned the nickname “legend killer” or “career killer.” But does he really deserve that title? Can he live up to the OG legend killer himself, the third generation superstar, Randy Orton? First we have to find out how Gunther acquired the nickname in the first place.
The nickname was cemented after Gunther won against John Cena at his retirement match December 13th. Though, many wonder if he truly earned the title “legend killer” after beating a 48 year old man who was obviously no longer in his prime.
Deonna Brhel states “John Cena’s retirement match should have ended better, and Gunther does not deserve that title at all.”
During Randy Orton’s “legend killer” era (from 2003-2006), Orton took out many of the greats. Including and not limited to: Mick Foley, Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, and Ric Flair. All of whom were extremely good wrestlers, with Hulk Hogan winning a total of 12 world championships. (six WWE championships, and six WCW world heavyweight championships.)
John Cena on the other hand, has won 17 championships, and is one of WWE’s most decorated superstars. Though as said earlier in the text, was not in his best condition. Due to previously stated reasons, and more, Gunther should not have the title “legend killer.”
