See below for a long term outlook for the year ahead.
Much of our learning will be child-led and we will be planning for hands-on, collaborative, purposeful, challenging and connected learning opportunities. All subjects in Year 6 are planned collaboratively as we aim for consistency in outcomes across all classes. There will also be opportunities for your children to be taught by other teachers across the year group too, preparing them for life at Secondary School and we look forward to meeting all the children in the Year Group. Additionally, we intend to mix children for maths lessons after the October half term in order to target specific gaps in learning and needs.
Your children will also form our new School Parliament, giving them a real voice in the running of the school and we look forward to holding debates and discussions this year with them and helping them to develop and find their voice; much of this will be our curriculum. Last year the school parliament was responsible for the new play equipment on the upper playground.
Parents have asked in the past how they can best support their children with curriculum learning at home and using the topics on the curriculum map for quick conversations around the dinner table or on the way to and from school can really support your children. Whilst we don’t ask for books to be purchased to support learning, some parents do ask if there is anything that would help. Each class will be reading the text, ‘There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom’ by Louis Sacher as a class story in the first half term and some children like to be able to follow along with the book or re-read sections at home.
