Reception

Reception have a French lesson every third week in their classroom. We focus on listening and speaking skills, using songs, stories, games, actions and puppets to help children experience the sound of spoken French and pronounce words and phrases in a fun and dynamic way. Children learn to listen and respond to simple questions and a range of vocabulary using actions to help them remember meaning and to improve recall. The topics covered include greetings, colours, numbers to 10 and pets. All these topics are reviewed in Years 1, 2 and 3. After Christmas, they also learn about the French tradition of 'La Galette des Rois' which is eaten during Epiphany.
