Scholarship Information
All scholarships listed are paper applications that are available in the LHS College and Career Center unless listed specifically as an online application only.
Mrs. Ray, scholarship coordinator, will gladly mail all applications for students only if they are submitted to her by the deadline date at noon so that she can get them in the school mail by 1:00 PM. Students are welcome to mail their own applications.
Students, if the application says it must be postmarked by a deadline date, that means it must be at the post office in plenty of time to be stamped with that day's date. Postmarked does not mean that you dropped it in the mailbox that day.
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is now open!
The Texas Education Agency requires that all seniors complete the FAFSA application. Please check this website for forthcoming information about FAFSA drives and parent information sessions at LHS.
Please remember that federal aid is first come, first served, so please complete your FAFSA application as soon as possible. Also make sure you have checked the financial aid deadline for your specific college or university so that you meet that very important deadline.
Mrs. Lee and Gracey Crawford, LHS's college coach from UT Tyler, will gladly help students and parents with the completion of the FAFSA online application.
Important Information about Submitting Scholarship Applications! Please Read!
Mrs. Ray, LHS scholarship coordinator, will be happy to mail scholarship applications for students if they meet the deadline she has listed on each application so that she can ensure that the applications arrive on time. Students are welcome to mail their own applications also.
When applying for scholarships, you must do the following if you expect to be competitive:
Make certain you complete the entire application with NO scratch outs and mark throughs. If you make mistakes, get another application and start over. You simply CANNOT submit an application asking for money that is not professionally written. DO NOT use pencil or colored pens. Black ink looks best. Remember that the scholarship donor has only your application to review, and the professional appearance of that application and its required documents is a direct reflection of you .
Attach ALL the documents that the application requires. Double check to ensure that you have everything before your submitting your application to Mrs. Ray for mailing or before mailing your application yourself. If you do not submit all the required documentation with the application, Mrs. Ray will not mail it since it will be rejected by the donor anyway. It is imperative that you follow the directions the scholarship donor has given on the application.
It is a student's responsibility to give Mrs. Ray his or her application ON TIME for mailing. Late applications will not be accepted as, again, a donor will not accept applications that are received after the deadline.
Students must attach the most current high school and college transcripts.
Decide whom you will ask for letters of recommendation and ask those teachers, coaches, counselors, principals, or community members weeks in advance to give them the courtesy of time to write the letters. Remember, teachers at LHS are writing letters for many, many students, and writing those letters takes time if you expect to get a quality letter. DO NOT request a letter on the scholarship's due date. Make sure the letter writers signs the letter in handwriting.
Together we can ensure that all LHS seniors have the best opportunity for earning scholarships.
