Teresa Elms Memorial Cup

This cup is for a student that despite adversity has achieved well. The recipient of this award has been a student at Te Aratai (and Linwood before) since 2017 when he was a year 7 student. If there is one word that could epitomise him it would be ngā uara of Rangatiratanga. Throughout his seven years with us, what has shone through is his relentless motivation through every single challenge. Not only has he managed to navigate his way through these he has flourished as a student and a person. He has always been a fantastic Tuakana to our younger students, has a strong network of friends and always greets adults with a smile. On top of this he has managed to achieve NCEA Levels 1 and 2 as well as being a part of the award winning Level 3 Business group this year.

Henare Chambers

The Norman Kirk Award for Manaakitanga

This new trophy was gifted by Christchurch Labor MPs to acknowledge a student that shows respect, generosity and care for others. The recipient of this award is an exemplary student consistently demonstrating manaakitanga. This student is always the first to offer a helping hand, picking up gear, opening the door for staff and uplifting others who need a bit of awhi. Staff have said that they have loved teaching this student during the year as they are hardworking, dedicated and the kind of student who always demonstrates Te Aratai Uara - Manaakitanga throughout our kura.

Justin Wilson

PTA Service Cup for Outstanding Service to the College

The award recipient is an incredibly dedicated patron of performing arts. This student has always been there to lend a helping hand to put on any performance and are certainly a “details” person. They have become the ‘Go to’ guy for staff for any technical support required at Te Aratai for any event. This student will be sorely missed next year. We want to thank this student for their unwavering support, commitment and the dedication of many hours so that “the show does go on''.

Georgia Kieboom

The Rob Burrough Cup for Demonstration of School Values and contributing to the wider school
Here at Te Aratai College we endeavour to encourage the principal values of manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, rangatiratanga, and turangawaewae. The recipient of the Rob Burrough Cup is a student that we feel has embodied these values consistently throughout the year. This award recipient is a fantastic student who consistently demonstrates manaakitanga and whanaungatanga towards both staff and students. They are an emerging leader and are always willing to support in whatever capacity necessary. In music, this student is a leader working hard in class, practicing and progressing at a rapid pace. Their poetry is exceptional as demonstrated in “Spoken Word” this year. They are supportive to other students and are always willing to participate in music showcases and extra curricular activities.

Smriti Parajuli

Te Aratai College Community Service award.

This is a new award gifted by the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board, and is to be presented to a deserving student recognising them for civic-related mahi during the school year. The student receiving this award has been chosen based on their work in the AKC: the Te Aratai Acts of Kindness Collective. They have been our most committed and consistent senior student, taking part in regular community service, demonstrating leadership and aroha, and establishing relationships in the wider community which have benefited the lives of others. They have done this with genuine concern for others and a pure heart.
