EquatIO is a Google Chrome extension created by the Texthelp team - the same group that created Read&Write. Subsequently, EquatIO integrates well into Google Suite and works in conjunction with Read&Write screen reading technology, making it one of the more ideal tools to use to increase overall student access to mathematics of all kinds.
EquatIO is available on the Google Chrome Web Store.
EquatIO allows for various input types by students, staff, and faculty, including typing, writing, speaking, and even LaTeX.
Format the desired math using the input method of your choice. Then click "Insert Math". EquatIO will create an image of that equation and insert it into your Google Suite document - complete with the necessary alt text that is crucial in making math accessible.
EquatIO also has a Screenshot Reader function that allows users to draw a box around any equation from any site accessed using Chrome. This function will analyze the selected area and accurately read the equation aloud.
That's okay! Equations that have been input into a Google Suite document with EquatIO can be copied and pasted into Microsoft Office documents. Just be sure to copy and paste the alt text, too!
Graphs can easily be added to documents with EquatIO, too! However, it does not automatically add any alt text to graphs, so it will be important to do this. Keep the description as concise as possible while still relaying all of the crucial content.
