Student Accommodations: It's Easier than you Think

Julie Hessel & Tracy Dusseau; Thursday October 3, 12-1pm, CC210

Meeting the needs of diverse learners can, at first glance, seem difficult and overwhelming. There may be times when you think “I want to support student success but this is over my head - I’m not an expert on disabilities”.

In this workshop, CFAR staff will review the student accommodation process; discuss updates to the faculty notification letter, and examine ways to understand and implement approved accommodations. You will leave the session knowing when to reach out for assistance and who to contact for support. Remember, you don’t have to be the expert - the experts are just a call away.

Do you cringe or think about running out of class when you hear the words ”Ok, let’s get into a group”? If so, you are not alone. Many of us would prefer to avoid group work if at all possible. Most likely, resistance to this popular classroom experience is rooted in a lack of knowledge and understanding about how to successfully navigate this process.

Join this workshop to learn all of the ways student group work helps promote critical thinking, enhances learning and builds communication skills. We will discuss effective strategies that make group work equitable and more enjoyable for both instructors and students.
