Denomination

The United Methodist Church is a worldwide mainline Protestant denomination based in the United States. 

This tradition affirms the faith shared by all Christians, with particular emphasis on God's grace and on Christian living, putting faith and love into action.

We look to Scripture, Tradition, Reason and Experience as we discern ways to live out love and compassion.

United Methodists commit to live out their faith in a local United Methodist church, promising their prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness as they gather in worship and learning, creating a community of welcome and respect, and departing to embrace the world with kindness and justice.

Recent years have found United Methodists in disagreement over issues of inclusion and sexual orientation.  United Methodists in Portland, including Lincoln Street, and the West believe in being fully inclusive and welcoming all. As a long-time Reconciling Congregation, we here at Lincoln Street Church actively seek to make sure that all people feel a warm welcome and inclusion in the full life of the congregation.
