In 2023 it is estimated that near $100 million in scholarships and $4 Billion went unclaimed. Beyond that near $4 Billion in Pell Grants went unclaimed because students did not complete their FAFSA.
This is money that does not need to be paid back and is available for just a little time.
Already accepted to college? Make sure to check out their financial aid page (usually found with admissions) to see what scholarships they have available. You can also speak with your admissions counselor for additional help in applying for school specific scholarships.
If after you have received your initial awards letter you still need assistance, speak with the financial aid office at the college and let them know. They can often help with more aid.

Students who plan to attend ICC and have lived in City of Peoria for the last four consecutive years may qualify for the Peoria Promise which grants partial or full tuition reimbursement for ICC students. Check HERE for eligibility and HERE for more information.
Financial Aid can be overwhelming, sit down as a family and have a conversation about what you can afford and what your limits are.
Make sure to calculate the cost over all four years of college.
In some cases going to ICC first does not save you money over the complete 4 years.
Ask about work-study programs available at the school or if the career center can help you find a job while in school. But make sure you have enough time to study.
