Dear Parents and Primary Students,
First and foremost, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the parents who have generously volunteered their time around the school. Your involvement has had a tremendous impact, particularly in our library. The time and effort you've dedicated to helping our students discover the joy of reading and maintaining a well-organized, inviting space for learning are truly appreciated. Thank you for being an integral part of our school community!
We are thrilled to share that our reception children had a fantastic time at the fire station this week! They were eager to learn about fire safety, explore the fire trucks, and even get to try on some firemen's gear. Their excitement and curiosity were a joy to witness, making this educational trip a memorable experience for all.
It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to Ms Nditha, who has been an invaluable member of our school community. Her dedication and passion for teaching have left a lasting impact on both students and colleagues. We are incredibly grateful for the positive changes she brought to our school and the inspiration she provided to everyone around her. She will be greatly missed, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
This term we are hosting our Lower primary and Pre-primary as well as our Upper primary sports days. Please don't hesitate to sign up to volunteer in our volunteer section below.
As we transition into colder weather, we kindly remind parents to ensure that children are warmly dressed. It’s crucial for their comfort and health during this season. Additionally, if your child has a fever, please keep them at home to recover fully before returning to school. For those with runny noses, make sure they come equipped with tissues to help maintain hygiene and minimise the spread of germs.
Please follow the links below for more detailed information about grade-specific activities and updates.
We also highly encourage you to read the latest Edu-Blog written by our volunteer Librarian, Ms Amy. It’s an exciting read that highlights our commitment to fostering a love for reading and learning in our students. You can find the article here.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
Warm regards,
Hannes van der Westhuysen

Lower Primary Sports Day 19 June
We're excited about our upcoming Reception, Gr 1 and 2 Sports Day, happening on Wednesday 19 June. See flyer below for all information including the day's programme of events! Looking forward to seeing you there.
Adjustment of Refundable 3 Months Deposit
To be in line with section 4 of our Schedule of Fees and Payment Policy, every two years, the school re-evaluates and applies any net adjustments on the 3 months refundable deposit. Hence, the school will soon be invoicing for this net adjustment this month (June 2024). This adjustment will concern students who joined the school before 31 December 2023.
New Campus Fencing
You may have noticed the new fence surrounding the Lighthouse School campus. This significant enhancement was made possible by the generous donation of US$55,000 from the US Embassy in Mauritius, covering the entire project cost.
As a non-profit independent school, Lighthouse relies on donations for large projects like this, and we are immensely grateful. The new fence not only ensures greater safety for our children and the campus, but also improves access control and prevents dogs from entering the premises.
We will also soon have an electronic gate installed. An updated entry protocol will be communicated shortly. We sincerely thank the US Embassy in Mauritius for their support and commend the outstanding work that they are doing!
Music Day on the 21st June
This year we will be celebrating Music Day on 21 June. We are calling all musicians who would like to sign up to play a piece on the instrument of their choice. This is open to all Primary students who are learning to play an instrument and who can perform a 2-minute musical piece.
No need to audition or anything... the first 5 students to sign up will perform during our special Music Day assembly that morning. Please click here to register.
Volunteers Opportunities
Our school thrives on the support and dedication of volunteers to continue providing our students with the best possible educational experiences! We are seeking volunteers to join us in various capacities. All welcome - Mummies, Daddies, Grandpas, Grandmas and the list goes on! Your involvement can make a significant impact and everyone in the community is welcome to sign-up!

Reception Admission 2025 OPEN
As we give priority to siblings for admission, please ensure that you send your application as soon as possible, if you have a child at the right age to join the Reception class next year (i.e. 4 years old turning 5 years old in 2025). Click here for the link to the online application.
Uniform Shop
Please note that the Uniform Shop will be closed again this coming week, on both Monday and Thursday (10 and 13 June), as we are moving the uniform shop to a new location. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. More information on the new location to be shared shortly.
Click here for the uniform price list and order form or email Ms. Melanie at uniform@lighthouse.edu.mu.
Lost and Found Reminder
We have noticed an increasing number of unmarked clothing, caps, and water bottles in our Lost and Found pile. Please remind your children that they are responsible for their belongings and should take care to keep track of what they bring to school. To address this ongoing issue, we are working on creating a new structure for the Lost and Found system, which we will share with you soon. In the meantime, please ensure that all personal items are clearly marked with your child's name and surname to facilitate their return.
