Reaching new heights......
Dear families,
Welcome Back to the adventure of Grade 1. We look forward to ‘reaching new heights’ this term as we continue to grow together. It’s been a joy to have our classrooms bubbling and ‘noisy’ again, full of happy voices learning and growing!
We have had a great start to the term and are so grateful to have Ms Cynthia back too. We were also sad to see Ms Nikita move to Grade 4 but know she will bring joy and learning to the Grade 4s. Thank you for all your love and dedication to our Grade 1s Ms Nikita. We wish you all the best and God’s blessings in this new role.
We want to once again thank our Class Parent Liaisons for their willingness to facilitate smooth communication between teachers and parents throughout this year.
As we continue the journey in grade 1 here are a few reminders to help your child become more independent and successful:
Your child NEEDS to read to you every day/evening.
Label all belongings!
Encourage your child to pack their school bag each night with all they need for school i.e. R.E.D folder, communication book, pencil case, hat and water bottle etc.
Teach your child to get dressed and undressed by themselves. This includes putting on socks and shoes.
If your child wears shoes with shoelaces, please teach them how to tie them (this is a great skill all children should learn).
Make sure your child is in bed by 8 pm each night.
Ensure your child has a healthy breakfast before school.
Please remember to check the communication book

10s and 1s
Place value 1-50, by learning and understanding the value of digits in the tens and ones place. E.g. 31 is 3 tens and 1 one and is not the same as 13 which is 1 ten and 3 ones. The order of how numbers are written represents their value.
Order and count numbers forward 1-50
Break apart numbers and put them back together through number bonds/two parts that make a number when we add them together and write number sentences/sums for addition and subtraction. e.g, bonds of 7 1+6=7, 2+5=7 etc
