Module 1
Module 1 - Place Value, Rounding, and Algorithms for Addition and Subtraction
Today, in lesson 1, we discussed unit form (ex: if the number is 12, in unit form we say 1 ten, 2 ones) and the concept of 10 times. We used number disks to show this work.
Place Value and number forms
We've been learning to apply place value knowledge and different number forms. The number forms are listed below so you can assist your student with homework.
Number in standard form: 153,252
expanded form: 100,000 + 50,000 + 3,000 + 200 + 50 + 2
Word form: one hundred fifty three thousand two hundred fifty two
Unit form: 1 hundred thousand, 5 ten thousands, 3 thousands, 2 hundreds, 5 tens, two ones
Adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers using the standard algorithm.
We have been applying place value and rounding to adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers. This week we added two step word problems which we will continue next week. The class is working hard to master these processes. Next week we will end our first module and take the end of module assessment.
