As per TEC §29.061(c) and TAC §89.1210, subchapter BB, emergent bilingual students must receive instruction by an appropriately certified teacher. There are several opportunities for teachers to prepare for the ESL certification exam. Please have your teachers review the below options and reach out to Jessica Solis with their preference (even if they prefer to complete TEA’s online course). The district will take care of the registration process for the teacher.

• This course accompanies the previously released preparation manual and is intended to equip Texas educators who desire to increase capacity in their districts and to enhance their existing ESL programs beyond minimum state requirements.

• Keep a copy of your exam receipt in order to get reimbursed.

• Provide Jessica Solis with:

  1. Preferred prep course (LHISD Prep Course | Region 13 online or in-person | TEA modules | Virtual Bootcamp)

  2. Date modules/course is completed

  3. Date of exam

  4. Exam results (pass/fail)

• After you earn a passing standard on the ESL exam, you will need to complete the following:

1. Submit to SBEC via your TEAL account (after logging into TEAL, follow these steps to add the ESL certification)--we, unfortunately, cannot reimburse for this fee

2. Once the certification is added to your SBEC, send me a copy of your SBEC showing the ESL certification along with a copy of your exam receipt (receipt must have your name, date, and amount)--once we receive both these items, your exam reimbursement will be processed

3. Once the certification is added to your SBEC, inform HR so they can update your records

4. DONE...CONGRATULATIONS!!
