General Information for Reading Academies
What are the HB3 Reading Academies & why are they required?
House Bill 3, passed by the Texas Legislature, requires all kindergarten through third grade teachers and principals to attend “Texas Reading Academies” by the end of the 2022-2023 school year. The goal of the Texas HB3 Reading Academies is to “increase teacher knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practices to positively impact student literacy achievement” (TEA).
Who will participate?
The lists below outlines the required, strongly encourages, and local discretion participation for the HB3 Reading Academies. This list was updated per TEA for the 2023-2024 school year. September Cohort (Comprehensive/In-Person Option for Teachers)
How do we register for Reading Academies?
Liberty Hill ISD will be partnering with Region 13 ESC to provide Texas Reading Academies cohorts. These cohorts provide a collaborative platform to complete each of the Reading Academy modules . Teachers and support staff will not only have collaboration opportunities through their campus PLC's, but will be a part of a cohort community that facilitates discussions and shares out instructional practices and strategies. Teachers will receive registration information prior to the first day of the cohort.

June 2023 BLENDED Cohorts
When will the modules be complete throughout the school year?
Below, you will find our plan for implementation during the 2023-2024 school year. Our goal is for the completion of the Reading Academies modules to not create any burden on our district teachers. The June modules are 100% virtual and self-paced. Reading Academy June “cohorts” will start on June 12th.
How will I earn CPE credit for Reading Academies in Eduphoria?
As you complete your modules of Texas Reading Academies, professional learning hours will be granted through Eduphoria. We are provided with a module progression report on a monthly basis through Region 13, so please expect progression updates based on that schedule.
How will Liberty Hill ISD support the completion of Reading Academies modules throughout the school year in the June cohort?
Sub Days
Liberty Hill ISD will be providing every teacher participating in the 2023-2024 Reading Academies 3 sub days taken at your choosing throughout the school year to complete Reading Academies modules. Sub days will be approved by campus administration.
Stipend
In addition to the three sub days, we will be providing a $200 stipend upon completion of all modules within Texas Reading Academies.
June Teacher Cohort Pacing Guide
September 2023 COMPREHENSIVE Cohort
Cohort Important Information:
This cohort consists of 10 in-person sessions.
5 of the sessions will require a substitute throughout the course of the 2023-2024 school year.
The remaining 5 sessions fall on a district professional learning day and/or summer.
Since the sessions are held in person, Region 13 assures us that there is little to no work that is required outside of these sessions.
Session schedules have been shared with teachers in these cohorts directly.
***September registration information was sent to specific teachers during the week of August 21.***
