House Bill 3, passed by the Texas Legislature, requires all kindergarten through third grade teachers and principals to attend “Texas Reading Academies” by the end of the 2022-2023 school year. The goal of the Texas HB3 Reading Academies is to “increase teacher knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practices to positively impact student literacy achievement” (TEA).
The lists below outlines the required, strongly encourages, and local discretion participation for the HB3 Reading Academies. This list was updated per TEA for the 2022-2023 school year. Reading Academies requirements will be completed through a partnership with Region 13.
June Cohort (Teachers)
July Cohort (Teachers)
September (Dual Language Teachers & Admin)
October (STR-Certified/ELAR Teachers)
Liberty Hill ISD will be partnering with Region 13 ESC to provide Texas Reading Academies cohorts. These cohorts provide a collaborative platform to complete each of the Reading Academy modules . Teachers and support staff will not only have collaboration opportunities through their campus PLC's, but will be a part of a cohort community that facilitates discussions and shares out instructional practices and strategies. Teachers will receive registration information prior to the first day of the cohort.
Sub Days
Liberty Hill ISD will be providing every teacher participating in the 2022-2023 Reading Academies 3 sub days taken at your choosing throughout the school year to complete Reading Academies modules. Sub days will be approved by campus administration.
Stipend
In addition to the three sub days, we will be providing a $200 stipend upon completion of all modules within Texas Reading Academies.
Below, you will find our plan for implementation during the 2022-2023 school year. Our goal is for the completion of the Reading Academies modules to not create any burden on our district teachers. These modules are 100% virtual and self-paced. Reading Academy “cohorts” will start on June 13th, mid-July, and mid-September (depending on the cohort you are registered for).
June 2022 Teacher Cohort Pacing Guide
