We want students to examine and explore what kindness means to them and how they can encourage wider society to “choose kind”.
The j2e Toolsuite is a collection of online educational tools specifically designed to engage, motivate and inspire. j2e is an online, fun, creative environment. Text, graphics, animations, sounds, videos, and embedded objects can be combined on a single web page, with unlimited storage for files and the ability to blog at the click of a button.
Your pupils could use j2e5 to create a poster of themselves with “Choose Kind” over one eye and ideas on promoting kindness.
For Primary school students, you can use the templates available in Busy Publisher to teach the concept of kindness. Have the students draw a picture of an act of kindness, such as helping an elderly person cross the road safely or rescuing a cat stuck in a tree.
The book “Wonder” by R. J Palacio has been a great starting point for many teachers and students to explore the notion of “choosing kind”. The author says she was inspired to write it by a chance encounter she had with a young girl while she was at an ice-cream shop with her two sons; Palacio started writing with the hope that her story could inspire parents and children alike. Get pupils to use the BusyThings 'Funny Faces' activity to create their own "Wonder" image.
You could use your Creative Cloud resources from Adobe Education Exchange to create a film about kindness or record a review about a book with kindness as a theme.
Spark posts could also be designed to display kindness and anti-bullying quotes. See images to the right for inspiration (hyerlinked) to use.
The Everyone Can Create curriculum is a collection of project guides (broken down into music, drawing, photo and video) that bring creative expression to every subject. They are designed to help students develop and communicate ideas and use free apps available on any iPad; taking advantage of the built-in camera, microphone, speakers, Multi-Touch display and Apple Pencil.
In Create for Kindness, the 9th book in the Create for a Cause series, we look at ways you can raise awareness about the importance of being kind through creative activities.
Mental Health Awareness Week often highlights small acts of kindness as a great way to improve mental health. (Read LGfL's Curriculum Blog on MHAW 2021). The Mental Health Foundation has produced a Kindness Matters guide offering tips and suggestions to inspire people and show the positive impact helping others can have on your own mental health.
The Mind Over Mirror campaign could help secondary pupils discuss why some choose to undergo plastic surgery procedures and offers guidance to inform choices of those considering it. Perhaps your pupils could try making their own “Mirror My Mind” comics to explore this issue?
In addition, the 2021 theme “Connecting With Nature” could inspire students to produce posters encouraging kindness that incorporates the benefits of connecting with nature.
Once your class(es)' work is completed you can submit it (via this submission form). It will be uploaded and celebrated on this LGfL hosted website.
