Fawn (they/them), a gender-queer urban Native, was born and raised in Chicago the way of the sixty-scoop, their father is a scoopie from Swan River, Manitoba and full status Member of Key First Nations located in southern Saskatchewan. Fawn is currently the programs coordinator for Northeastern Illinois University’s (NEIU) Angelina Pedroso Center for Diversity. In their position they focus on the development and empowerment of LGBTQ+ and Native/Indigenous students. Fawn has worked closely with communities across Chicago to incorporate land-based pedagogies and Indigenous worldview into curricula and policy while working towards dismantling systems of white supremacy.
Quortne R. Hutchings (they, them) is a first-generation college graduate, proud Ronald E. McNair scholar alum, and assistant professor of higher education at Northern Illinois University. Their research primarily focuses on Black gay, bisexual, queer, and non-binary undergraduate and graduate students’ academic and social experiences in higher education, student affairs professionals’ experiences in student and academic affairs, undergraduate and graduate students’ experiences with substance use and recovery, and critical qualitative methodologies (e.g., queer phenomenology, arts-based research, and collaborative autoethnography). Quortne has student and academic affairs experiences in academic advising, orientation, multicultural affairs, TRiO programs, and leadership development.
Tristan “TK” Morton is the associate director of Spectrum Center. Ze is a Black, trans, queer educator; advocate; and joy creator. Ze centers queer and trans BIPOC joy, laughter, and advocacy, making sure that all spaces are accessible and centering the love and care of the community. Tristan has a bachelor’s degree in women’s and gender studies from Eastern Michigan University and a master’s in higher education administration from Stony Brook University. When ze isn’t working ze is trying new foods, going on an adventure, reading the dozens of books that are still waiting to be read on zirs bookshelves, listening to their favorite music, and discovering new amazing possibilities.
