Students at Leyton Sixth Form College have the chance to become a Sports Ambassador alongside completing their studies. This programme provides students with a wide variety of opportunities, including helping to coach and lead various sports sessions and assisting with various sports events and college open days. During this programme students also gain customer service and event planning experience through helping out with various tasks and projects in the sports department.
The Sports Ambassador programme is offered to all students in college. Students will be able to develop many different skills while being a Sports Ambassador, such as teamwork, leadership and communication skills, working alongside a team of ambassadors, coaches and sports staff to ensure sport at Leyton Sixth Form College is the best it can be.
This year we've updated the Sports Ambassador programme to make sure it complies with the COVID19 restrictions. The programme consists of some virtual content, and some 'real life' opportunities. There are lots of options to choose from, and you can design your own programme based on your interests and personal development needs.
Throughout the course of the academic year, Sports Ambassadors are offered numerous extracurricular opportunities, including various trips to reward them for their hard work. We have previously taken our Sports Ambassadors to trampoline parks, Thorpe Park, BMX Riding, Go Ape and also to watch England v Montenegro at Wembley Stadium. At the end of the academic year our Ambassadors are recognised through our very own Leyton Sixth Form Sports Awards. One of the awards includes Sports Ambassador of the year.
Valerie Barclay (Sports Ambassador 2019/20)
I became a sports ambassador in September, 2019. The responsibility that comes with the role is a good way for me to discipline myself and it's a way for me to manage my time, make a routine and complete the tasks given to me without fail, which helps me a lot when it comes to other things in life.
The social skills I have developed as result of becoming a sports ambassador have improved my confidence and it has given me a feel as to what it's like to work in such an environment where I must communicate with people constantly.
It's a way for me to add to my CV and UCAS application, being a sports ambassador is a title that speaks for itself and shows that I can represent sport with expertise.
