The eighth grade program builds upon learning from previous years. The primary focus of the eighth grade program is in the physical sciences including earth and space science. Topics of study include; Motion, Energy, Gravitational & Electrical Forces, States of Matter, Atoms, Mixtures & Solutions, Chemical Reactions, Seasons, Lunar Phases, Tides & Planetary Motion, and Human Impact on Global Systems.

In this science course students have multiple opportunities to engage in laboratory experiences and inquiry-based activities throughout the year. Student engage in project based learning that integrate other disciplines along with designing their own experiments and research. They have many experiences where they begin to build their critical thinking, use the science practice skills and continue to develop a knowledge and curiosity for the world in which they live.

As students progress through the year they encounter topics and skills that help to prepare them for high school science course expectations. This course also prepares students for the MA State Science Technology, and Engineering MCAS which they are required to take in the spring of each eighth grade year.
