Sixth Grade Science

Course# 360

The sixth grade science course is a general overview of science topics and science practice skills. For most students this is their first experience in a separate science class with a laboratory taught by a teacher who specializes in science. Students are exposed to content topics in physical and earth science. These topics include; Density, Uncovering Earth’s layers, Continental Drift & Plate Tectonics, Structure of the Universe, Waves, Heat, Weather, Climate & Climate Changes. Students are asked to engage with the eight practices of science where they learn how to think and behave as scientists and engineers in a laboratory setting.

In this science course students have several opportunities to engage in inquiry-based and problem solving activities. This course provides multiple experiences where students begin to build their critical thinking skills, use the practices of science in the state frameworks, and develop a curiosity for the world in which they live.
