How To Register for an Advanced Placement Exam
It is a two-step process. Step 1 involves registering and paying via Total Registration. Step 2 involves enrolling with the College Board. Both steps are required.
Step 1: In order to register and pay for your exam(s), create an account or log into your existing account in Total Registration.
Select the course(s) and teacher(s)/block(s) you are in at LHS.
If you are studying on your own and not in an AP Class you would select the course and "independent study" instead of the teacher.
On your confirmation page you will receive a six digit join code for each exam (for example, JTW325). You will need the join code for Step 2.
Step 2: To complete the exam ordering process, you must use the join codes provided on your confirmation page to enroll in your exams with the College Board. Go to the College Board website and create a student account or log into your student’s existing account.
Click the “Join a Course or Exam” button and enter the join code you received from Step 1. Students enrolled in the course at LHS will enroll in the “Classroom” section, and independent study students will enroll in the “Exam Only” section. (Please note: students enrolled in the AP course at LHS may have already completed Step 2. However, those students should remember that joining an AP Classroom section is NOT the same as registering for the exam. Both steps of this two-step process — including payment via Total Registration — must be completed for a test to be ordered.)
**For students enrolled in AP Economics and/or AP Physics courses at LHS, please remember that there are two exams for each course (Microeconomics and Macroeconomics and Mechanics and Electricity and Magnetism, respectively). Students must register separately for those exams.
Additional Policies and Reminders
10th-, 11th-, and 12th-graders may only register as “Independent Study” for exams/courses offered at/below their current grade level per the LHS Program of Studies. For example, 10th-graders may not register for an exam if the corresponding course at LHS is open only to 11th- and/or 12th-graders.
As no AP courses at LHS are open to freshmen, 9th-graders may not register to take any AP exam at LHS.
There is no "Independent Study" option allowed for the following AP exams: Chinese Language, Italian Language, Spanish Language, French Language, Music Theory, 2-D ART, 3-D ART, and Drawing. Students must be enrolled in the LHS course in order to take the above mentioned exams.
Students may not register as “Independent Study” to take an AP exam that LHS does not offer.
