On April 5th, the Trump Administration enacted a 10% minimum tariff on every country in the world. Since then, Trump’s tariff policies have only become more volatile and economically detrimental. In this committee, delegates will explore the effects of the most updated Trump tariffs on developing nations in particular, namely BRICS and their allies. These nations face additional hardship from the tariffs’ interruption of international trade, and as such, delegates must work together to find a solution that ensures collective economic prosperity. The challenge: compromising with First World countries, who are increasingly in support of a deglobalized world.
You may have noticed that there are five chairs listed. Two of them listed as, “Committee I Chairs”, and the other three listed as “Committee II Chairs”. This is because at LEXMUN XI, we will be running two versions of the BRICS committee. When you received your role, the corresponding BRICS committee should have either had the number “I” or “II”. If your committee has an “I” in it, then you are a part of Committee I. If your committee has an “II” in it, then you are a part of Committee II. Both committees use the same background guide, the one you are currently reading. When you submit position papers, please make sure it goes to the correct chairs. If you submit your position paper to the wrong committee, then you might not receive credit for the submission. If you are Committee I, make sure to submit your position papers to Victoria Woo and Meghna Rajesh. If you are Committee II, make sure to submit your position papers to Raymond Hang, Rajvir Kalra, and Tyler Ross. If you have any questions, feel free to email your chairs, or LEXMUN staff at lexmun@gmail.com.
