WHAT: Reading takes practice! Students should be reading books of different genres, including fiction, non fiction, graphic novels/comic books, realistic fiction, and mystery, among many others.
HOW: Students can read in different modalities including hard copy books, magazines, e-books, podcasts, and audio books.
WHO: Your child can read to his or her self, you can read to your child, your child can read to or with a sibling. Your child can also listen to an audio book while following along with text. We can read with our eyes and ears.
The important thing is to read something every day!

ACCESSING RESOURCES VIRTUALLY
- Get a Boston Public Library eCard for access to BPL's extensive list of downloadable content (including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, downloadable music and movies) as well as their online databases. Anyone who lives, works, attends school, or owns property in Massachusetts is eligible.
- Cary Library, the Minuteman Library Network, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners provide you with access to dozens of databases (visit their website here). You can access many of these resources from home with your library card. Items followed by an asterisk (*) can be accessed from home only by Lexington residents.
- Cary Library also has a list of recommended e-resources specifically for children here.
- Great Minds: Great Minds has daily lessons in Wit & Wisdom (English language arts) available for free for students in grades K–8 . These lessons will be delivered by Great Minds' own teachers and will be viewable on any device.
- Hoopla and OverDrive: Many local public libraries use these two apps to allow users to borrow digital books for free. Visit your local library's website and look for the section on digital resources.
- StoryLine Online: Hear quality children's literature read aloud and see illustrations.
