7th Grade Literature

• No Homework.  Our last class is Tuesday.  You do not need to bring your books but you will need a pencil pouch.   

8th Grade Earth Science

• Be sure to bring your book to class next week.  I will collect books on Wednesday. 

• Review the two warm-ups and the vocabulary words for Chapter 16.

• Make sure your notes, warm-ups, and vocabulary sheets are in your binder where you can easily find them during the test.

• A short open-book test over Chapter 16 will be held on Wednesday (5/22). 

8th Grade Geography

• Class is complete!  Great job everyone!

• Congratulations to Julianna and Nyah for their wins in the Robinson Map competitions!

WEEK 32 (Tuesday 5/7 - 5/13):

7th Grade Literature

• Practice the AYLI recitation. Be prepared to recite to Mrs. Plueger before the end of the year.  Great job today reciters! 

• Read pages 133 to 147 in Peter Pan.  Be prepared to answer a few general questions about the reading in a mini-quiz on Tuesday (5/14).   

8th Grade Earth Science

• EXCITING NEWS EARTH SCIENCE STUDENTS!  A massive sunspot has been firing off X-flares and CMEs.  Four coronal mass ejections may be combining into a "cannibal CME" and they are all heading to earth.  According to NASA, they should begin to arrive tomorrow (5/10) at 5:00 p.m. our time.  Be on the look out for possible auroras!  With parental approval, check out www.spaceweather.com for more information.

• Complete Chapter 16 Assignment on the stars handed out in class and attached here.  Turn in on Tuesday (5/14) for an assignment grade.

• Look ahead:  A short open book test on Chapter 16 on Wednesday (5/22). 

8th Grade Geography

• Complete the Unit 9 Atlas Investigation handed out in class and attached here.

• Practice the Robinson Map project - add in Australia, Antarctica, New Guinea and the outline of the rest of Europe and Asia for a completed map.  

• LAST DAY OF CLASS IS WEDNESDAY (5/15).  We will hold the Robinson Map contest for prizes, and a short Geography Bee for team prizes.  Teams will be set by random selection.

• All remaining 20th century paper presenters should plan to do so on Tuesday (5/14).

• Student workbooks shall be turned in on Wednesday (5/15) - BE SURE the following is thoroughly completed: 

1. Capitals and map for Unit 8 (pp. 44-45) - for 30 assignment points

2. Both maps for Unit 9 (pp. 48-51) - for 40 assignment points

WEEK 31 (Tuesday 4/30 - 5/6):

7th Grade Literature

• Practice the AYLI recitation. Be prepared to recite to Mrs. Plueger before the end of the year.  

• Complete HW #2 on Peter Pan Chapters 6-8 handed out and attached here.  Turn in for an assignment grade on Tuesday (5/7).  

8th Grade Earth Science

• Study for the Chapter 15 test to be held on Tuesday (5/7).  Be sure to review the Chapter 15 Test Topics document here.  Use the flashcards to master the vocabulary.  Practice, practice, practice and contact Mrs. Plueger with any questions.

8th Grade Geography

• Complete the Student Workbook maps for Unit 9 (pages 48-51).

• Be sure the Student Workbook map and capitals for Unit 8 have been completed.  

• Look ahead: Workbook mapping checks for Units 8 and 9 will occur before the end of the year.

WEEK 30 (Tuesday 4/23 - 4/29):

7th Grade Literature

• Practice the AYLI recitation.

• On the Peter Pan handouts handed out in class, complete page 13 for Chapter 6, and page 9 for Chapter 7, including the drawing. This will be checked for a completion grade on Tuesday (4/30).

8th Grade Earth Science

• Study for a weekly quiz over the last 8 vocabulary words for Chapter 15 and this week's lecture notes. Use the flashcards handed out in class and attached here.  

• Complete page two of the Chapter 15 Textbook Assignment on the Sun handed out in class (and attached here). Be prepared to turn this in for a grade on Tuesday (4/30).

• Look ahead: Test on Chapter 15 on Tuesday (5/7). 

8th Grade Geography

• Review your research notes for the history paper, and prepare brief notes for a classroom presentation.  These will begin next week.  Follow the guide handed out in class and attached here.  

• Study for the Unit 8 Test on Wednesday (5/1) using the Test Topics list handed out in class and attached.

WEEK 29 (Tuesday 4/16 - 4/22):

7th Grade Literature

• Make sure you have completed all six pages of the Peter Pan Chapters 1-5 assignment.  Make sure your answers are underlined in the text.  Study this document to help prepare for the Wednesday quiz.

• Practice the AYLI recitation.

• Work on your essay answers for the AYLI Test #2.  Make sure you have your quotes and citations easily accessible, and understand how you will use them in your answers.  You can choose to prewrite some or all of your final answers and submit them on Tuesday.  Be sure to write in complete sentences.

• Reread all of your Chapter 7 lecture notes and flashcards.  Pay attention to the pictures.

• If you have extra time, feel free to work on next weekend's favorite fossil assignment attached here.

• Continue work on getting your final paper outline document 75% complete.  Turn in Wednesday (1/17) for a 75% completion check (not for a grade).

WEEK 16 (1/9 - 1/15):

7th Grade Literature

• Reread AYLI Act 1 Scene 1 Lines 80-155 and Act 1 Scene 2 Lines 1-203.  While reading, girls should read all lines for Celia and Rosalind out loud.  Boys should read all lines for all of the male characters out loud. We will act out these scenes in class on Tuesday. 

• In preparation for the weekly AYLI quiz, study the student workbook vocabulary and comp questions we completed on pp. 10-13.

8th Grade Earth Science

• Complete the Mapping of the Earth’s Major Volcanoes and the Mapping of the Earth's Major Earthquakes worksheets.  Turn in on Tuesday (12/19).

• Congratulations on your great volcano projects!

• Study for the Unit 4 test.  (Test topics: All mapping, workbook questions 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 14, 16, 18, 21, 22 and capitals)

• VOLCANO PROJECT DUE WEDNESDAY (12/13).  Bring your posterboard or model and cards on Wednesday.  They will be displayed all day.  Erupting models will be set off during class.

• Check out the Smithsonian Institution's website here for detailed information on your volcano.  Go to your volcano tab, and click the eruptions tab, then click on each eruption for details.  Explore. Some will have VEIs.  Remember to use 4 sources.

WEEK 11  (11/14 - 11/27):

7th Grade Literature

• Over the Thanksgiving break, ask five of your family or friends what their favorite book was growing up.  Find out it these books are fiction or non-fiction.  Ask one or two of them what they think of Shakespeare.  Write down their responses and bring them to class (11/28) for a homework grade and to share.  Have a great Thanksgiving!

8th Grade Earth Science

• Review the tectonic plate, volcanic eruption, and volcano supplemental reading handouts (you do not need to answer the questions).  Use these handouts and your research to determine for your volcano (1) which tectonic plate boundary (and the type of boundary) it is on, (2) what type of eruptions it has, and (3) what type of volcano it is.  Bring these facts to class on Tuesday 11/28.

• Look Ahead:  Volcano Project will be due the week of 12/12.

• If you have extra time over the break and want to get ahead:

1. Work on your volcano project.

2.  Work on the major volcano and earthquake latitude and longitude assignments.  (Use your atlas to check one or two to make sure you are doing it correctly.)

3. Flashcards for Chapter 6 are posted here.  Consider getting a head start on learning these.

8th Grade Geography

• If you do not have the U.S. States and Capitals memorized, use the 2 handouts or your atlas for practice.  We will work on these through December.  

• Bring the four (or more) sources for your paper to class on Tuesday 11/28.  You will be using them to start work on your outline in class on Tuesday 11/28.   If you have not provided your paper topic, email it to Mrs. Plueger.

WEEK 10  (11/7 - 11/13):

7th Grade Literature

• Study the Chapter 18, 19 and 20 Study Guides for the Tuesday quiz and Test #2.

• Review Quiz #6 for Test #2.

• Continue practicing the John 15:1-5 recitation.  You will be reciting this individually for a grade in mid-December.

8th Grade Earth Science

• Email the teacher (copy your parent) with the name of your volcano.  Be sure that it has had eruptions that can be documented in some way from the past. 

• Complete the rest of the Chapter 5 Higher Order Thinking Assignment attached.  All answers can be found in your textbook.  Turn in Wednesday (11/15).

• Complete the Modern Model of the Earth's Interior assignment - if you need a new copy it is attached here.  Be sure to include all detail that has been provided.  Turn in Wednesday (11/15).  

• Prepare for the test by cutting out and studying your flashcards.  A copy of the flashcards is attached here if you need another set - be sure to print them double-sided.  

• Be sure to review the Chapter 5 Test Topics document attached here.  There is additional information included that will help you understand the material.

• NOTE: Due to the large number of definitions in this chapter, a word bank WILL be provided for all words on the Chapter 5 Test.

• On a piece of notebook paper, write down a sequential list of the main plot events that occur in Chapters 22 and 23 only through page 186.  Include at least six events.  Write in complete sentences with nice penmanship.  Assignment will be turned in on Tuesday (10/31).

• 30-point Recitation QUIZ over John 15:1-5 on Thursday (11/2). 

8th Grade Earth Science

• Complete the required Chapter 4 Test Prep and Higher Order Thinking Assignment.  Be sure to attach the Igneous Rock and Sedimentary Rock Reading Sheets to your Test Prep.  Turn in Wednesday (11/1). (Note: This is not an optional assignment.)

• Prepare for the test by cutting out and studying your flashcards.  

• Study the Chapter 4 Textbook Guide and turn in for final grading on Wednesday (11/1).

Do this two times for the countries, and two times for the physical features.  Challenge sheets will be checked on Tuesday (10/3).  Use your extra time to complete your Earth Science assignments.
