The purpose of WL courses is for the learner to progress from a Novice Low proficiency level to Novice Mid, High, and then to an Intermediate level in all 3 modes of communication (Interpretive, Presentational, Interpersonal).
The student’s proficiency level is determined according to the American Council of Teaching Foreign Languages guidelines.
These proficiency guidelines drive the entire Lexington School District One k-12 World Language program.
A wide variety of methods and techniques are used in the classroom, including pairs and groups work, role play, games, dialogue practice, reading, writing and listening activities, and more. All these activities offer you the opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding of the target country culture (history, geography, day life), to practice and improve your communication skills.
Teachers use the target language to navigate classroom procedures and technology procedures.
At the end of this course, you will be able to greet someone and introduce yourself, to describe yourself and someone else, to ask and answers questions about someone else (name, age, birthday, physical description, personality…) You will be able to understand information/questions about activities, to write, ask and tell about your likes and dislikes (sport, activities)

You will be able to order food and drink in a restaurant, talk about a restaurant and its menu, to give simple information about food, to give your preferences and recommendations. You will be able to understand a menu, and a simple restaurant review.
At the end of this course, you will be able to ask and answer questions about what you and others like to do in your free time, to make plans to do something with someone, to respond to an invitation and ask questions about the event, to invite someone to do something or go somewhere, to accept or reject an invitation. You will be able to understand what a person does in his/her free time, the event, date, time and location in a conversation, radio ad, poster or flyer. You will be able to give simple opinions about things you might buy, to express opinions about different clothing and outfits. You will be able to describe the weather, to describe your style including where you like to shop for clothes, different sizes and fit. You will be able to understand some details about shopping, clothing and prices from commercials, audio descriptions, magazines, catalogs, etc.
