Guidelines for Fans & Parents

A. Parent/Coach Communications Guidelines:

1. Communication parents should expected from the coach:

Practice and game schedules

Philosophy of coaching.

Team expectations and standards.

Requirements to be a team member.

Description of injuries to parents.

Description of disciplinary actions.

2. Acceptable Communication from parents to the coach:

Any schedule conflicts, well in advance.

Concerns about physical, emotional, or mental treatment of the athlete.

Questions regarding the development of the athlete's skills and maturity

3. Procedures/Expectations to be followed when a parent has concerns about a coach:

Do not attempt to speak to or confront the coach before, during, or immediately following a game.

Make an appointment with the coach.

During the meeting, communicate concerns clearly and allow the coach to respond without interruption.

If a satisfactory resolution is not arrived at during the meeting, the parent may request a meeting with the Athletic Director and coach by calling Jason Fuller at 795-4190 ext. 211.

A Fan's Guide to Sportsmanship:

Acceptable behavior:

Standing at attention and removing caps during the playing of the National Anthem.

Applauding during the introduction of players, coaches, and officials.

Showing concern for an injured player regardless of which team that player is on.

Accepting decisions made by officials, coaches, and players.

Displaying enthusiasm by cheering positively for your team.

Supporting the cheering squad by participating appropriately in crowd cheers.

Encouraging those around you to display only sportsmanlike behavior.

Unacceptable behavior:

Disrupting or wearing a hat during the playing of the National Anthem.

Heckling players, officials, or coaches.

Participating in derogatory yells, songs, or gestures.

Displaying anger with officials, players, or coaches.

Blaming the outcome of a game on officials or individual players.

Disrupting cheering squads by altering cheers or yelling inappropriately during routines.

Endangering participants or fans by throwing objects.

Drawing attention away from the game by behaving in a loud or inappropriate manner.
