SATURDAY, November 20, 2021 - The Letran Senior High School’s St. Vincent Liem de la Paz Youth Ministry organized a webinar entitled, “Sorry akin! The wisdom of owning up to one’s mistake”, aired via Google Meet and Facebook Livestream.

The event started with the Prayer of the Rosary, followed by the opening remarks of Mr. John Elmer Lacson, the Club President. “Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven,” he quoted from the Bible. Before finishing his speech, he left the audience with a question to ponder: “Is it okay to own my mistake to others?”

Thereafter, the club’s assistant secretary, Ms. Justin Riego, humbly welcomed and introduced the resource speaker, Mr. Teddy ‘Ted’ Toledo, the Letran Manila’s Campus Minister.

Mr. Teddy, better known as Kuya Ted, started his discussion by asking the audience what Filipino jargons they knew. This was followed by an activity called, “Never Have I Ever - Catholic Fun Edition”, where he asked questions like: “Never have I ever fallen asleep during the rosary”.

“No one is perfect...Everybody commits mistakes, and we need to capitalize the truth,'' Kuya Ted highlighted. He then expounded how one's failure is an opportunity to learn and grow. Instead of fearing it and trying to pretend it never happened, one must face it head on as it’s the only way to overcome such angst.

Furthermore, Kuya Ted presented the framework called Johari Window, a technique designed to help people better understand their relationship with themselves and others. “Hindi mo nakikita na nagkamali ka pero alam ng iba. Life is a show and we are the performers, ang daming nakatingin… It is said that the greatest enemy is the self,” noted by Kuya Ted.

Moreover, he talked about pride being the deadliest sin and how one can dismantle it. Kuya Ted shared five (5) ways:

  1. Realize that everyone makes mistakes.

  2. Only the fool would deny that everyone makes mistakes.

  3. Pride blinds us from the truth.

  4. Pride can cripple any ministry.

  5. Only humility can counter pride.

“By protecting our ego, we are neglecting the grace of God… You can change. Stop blaming others. Stop blaming circumstances. Rather, take responsibility,” remarked by him as he concluded his insightful discussion.

The audience were then given the chance to ask some questions. Afterward, it was followed by the awarding of the Certificate of Appreciation delivered by Mr. Arthur Miguel Castor, the club’s Vice President.

As the certificate was delivered, Mr. Michael Maglaque, the club adviser, gave his closing remarks. Later on, the closing prayer was led by the Assistant Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Rabang. The said webinar successfully came to its end as the participants were asked to open their cameras for a photo opportunity.
