WEDNESDAY, March 17 - The grade 12 ABM students of the Letran - SHS Department attended a webinar entitled, “Career Path: Guide to your future path”, conducted by the Letran Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (LJPIA) in partnership with the Letran Senior High School via Facebook private page.
The webinar began with a game called “Guess the Profession”, wherein all participants were encouraged to take part by commenting their guess on what profession is referred to from the pictures displayed on the screen. Afterwards, Mr Joshua Miguel Agao, the Overall Project Head and the Vice President for Sponsorship, delivered the Opening Remarks. He expressed his struggles initially as he was figuring out which path to take but eventually found which one he’ll pursue. Before proceeding to the talk proper, the Southwave Records played for the intermission number.
Furthermore, after the intermission, Ms Benica A. Ventilacion, the Assistant Vice Chairperson of the Education and Research Committee of the Youth for Mental Health Coalition, was introduced as the webinar's guest speaker. During her discussion, she talked about her past experiences and what she learned from those events in her life. She shared how she faced many challenges during her college life, in which she didn’t feel good about her first chosen field, which led her to shift or change her course. “When things get hard, it’s okay to quit. It’s okay to change directions”, she explained, saying that it’s not wrong to go into a direction that’s different from what you initially chose because chances are the path you are taking is just not meant to be. She added that after shifting, she had found herself to love her new chosen way. She was able to improve her skills better and utilise the set of skills she has.
Moreover, Ms Benica discussed that in college, it’s not all about academics and studying; there are also extracurricular activities. She talked about some of the organisations she was a part of during college that impacted her. She then explained that after graduating, she immediately continued and entered law school, where she also faced a lot of struggles but eventually found a way to rekindle the fire within her and to continue with her studies. Towards the end of her talk, she shared a few words of wisdom, one of which is that “This is a journey. There would be detours.” She expressed that there will be times where one would face unexpected challenges, and it will always be a part of the journey.
Subsequently, the question and answer part of the program commenced. One of the questions asked was, “what advice can we give someone who has no idea what field to pursue in college?” “It’s okay to try out things”, Ms Ventilacion answered, explaining that it is possible to try out things based on one’s skill set to help them decide on what they would want to become in the future. Another question that was raised centered on how to deal with all sorts of pressure brought by different factors. “In college, I would just do what I can.” Ms Benica said as she talked about having unmet expectations that don’t make her feel good. It makes her feel pressured and stressed which affects her performance and functionality.
Afterwards, another set of questions for the game “Guess that Profession” were asked followed by the awarding of a certificate to Ms. Benica Ventilacion. Another intermission number from the Southwave Records was played before closing the event. And finally, to formally end the program, Ms Alyssa Nicole Tandoc, the Project head of the said event, delivered the closing remarks who expressed her gratitude towards those who participated and to everyone who took part in the said event.
