SATURDAY, November 6, 2021 - In collaboration with the Community Extension Department (CED) of Letran College Manila, the Technical Vocational Area of the Senior High School Department facilitated an informative webinar entitled, “Technological Tips and Tricks in the NOW”, via Google Meet and Facebook Livestream, spanning from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
The said webinar kicked off with the Quadricentennial Prayer, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the recitation of the Colegio’s Vision and Mission.
Mr. Victor Alejandro Dela Torre, the master of ceremony, briefly introduced for the focal point of the webinar to get things rolling. A minute later, Ms. Therian Charlotte Diaz, the TechVoc Ambassador of the Letran Senior High School Council, gave her opening remarks.
As for the introduction of the resource speaker, it was delivered by Mr. Philip Jacob Malabag, the Chief Creative Officer of the Letran SHS Creative Hub. The latter introduced Mr. Wilbert P. Carolino, MAEd, an Educational Technologist and a graduated Cum Laude in Letran.
Mr. Wilbert held a very short Kumustahan Session serving as a Check-Up, wherein the participants and the viewers from Facebook Live will be choosing from the following emojis or reactions to share what they’re feeling as of the moment.
He divided his lecture into four (4) parts: (1) #ShareMoLangViaEmail, (2) #LigtasNaBalikEskwela, (3) #SaliAko, and lastly, (4) #MeronYarn?
To formally open his discussion, Mr. Wilbert started with the first part: #ShareMoLangViaEmail. The said topic aims to educate the students on properly sending their teachers a message whenever they’re inquiring. He presented an example serving as an opening to the subject, where Mr. Wilbert asked the participants about what they observed in the presentation.
“Sa online, kapag gumamit ka ng uppercase, ibig sabihin you’re shouting. So, please be mindful with that,” Mr. Wilbert noted, suggesting that students should be respectful at all times and observe formality with their teachers in terms of sending them a message online.
He then showed off an infographic containing the steps on how students should email their teachers. The said infographic contained five (5) simple steps: (1) Subject Line, where it must contain a 2-5 words summary of the email, (2) Begin with a Greeting, (3) Body of the Email, (4) Closing, and (5) Sign Your Name!
Thereafter, Mr. Wilbert showcased a very helpful function in Gmail — scheduling a person’s email or the scheduled email.
Ending his discussion for the first part, he then proceeded to the second part, which is #LigtasNaBalikEskwela. This topic aims to inform the participants about the practical safety and security tips in Google Classroom. “Ang success ng new normal education ay hindi lamang nakasalalay doon sa bata, dapat kaagapay tayong mga magulang,” Mr. Wilbert embarked.
He then presented the infographic of the Cybersecurity Advisory from the Department of Information Communication Technology, a complete guideline regarding the safe usage of Google Classroom for online learning.
Proceeding with the third part of his lecture, #SaliAko, which aims to promote collaboration using Google Workspace. “Matuto tayong makibagay, at matuto tayo sa iba,” he started. Mr. Wilbert also mentioned the famous and common Google Workspace Apps such as Google Meet, Google Docs, Google Classroom, Google Sheets, Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Slides.
Indeed, Google Workspace is very user-friendly. And the fact that people can access all of the Google Apps combined in just one place makes it very convenient for the users, especially in online learning. Students and, at the same time, educators won’t have a hard time accessing and exploring the depths of Google Workspace.
As for the fourth and last part of his lecture, #MeronYarn?, Mr. Wilbert selflessly provided some educational apps and platforms, which the viewers would very much appreciate.
In terms of research, Mr. Wilbert mentioned Google Scholar, a specialized internet search engine that allows students to find and locate specific academic publications, research organizations' papers, books, articles, and other materials.
Summarizing the other educational platforms that he shared: (1) ProQuest, an online library, (2) Grammarly, a writing assistant, and (3) QuillBot, a paraphrasing tool.
As soon as his lecture came to an end, the floor for the Question and Answer portion was opened, where the participants actively engaged to feed up their curiosity. When their questions were fulfilled, the host then presented the Certificate of Appreciation to the resource speaker, Mr. Wilbert Carolino.
Afterwards, Mr. Jerry Escultura, the Learning Area Coordinator of TechVoc Strand, delivered his closing remarks, followed by answering their evaluation forms for the E-Certificate. The said webinar successfully came to an end as the participants were asked to open their cameras for a photo opportunity and the community singing of Himno del Colegio.
