After two years in the pandemic, the Letran Senior High School - English Area has successfully spearheaded the Culminating Activity of the English Month last February 27, 2023, at the Mabini Hall.
The department held activities during English Month, including the Spelling Bee, Photoetry Competition, and Character Parade, which genuinely challenged the Senior Squires' creativity, language articulation, and literacy competencies. Aside from the awarding of winners from the recently held contests, the Letran Impresarios Guild performed their original composition highlighting their portrayal of chosen literary characters entitled, “Ulayaw.”
During their stage play, various characters from Philippine literature were portrayed, such as Tungkung Langit, Dead Stars, Juan Tamad, Maria Makiling, Legend of the Pineapple, Legend of the Rose, Footnote to Youth, Wedding Dance, and Mangita and Larina. The plot of the stage play revolves around the characters initially stranded on an island. As the performance progressed, they interacted, shared the story of their lives, reminisced, and honored their loved ones. The way they used modern and old-style language in a very creative and amusing way made their stage performances extremely engaging—and the fact that all of them are in character sets the mood.
After the performance of the Impresarios Guild, the presentation of awardees soon followed, starting with the winners of the Spelling Bee Competition. Faith Jireh Santos from STEM11F bagged third place, Raia Faith Mikhaila Lorenzana from STEM11B placed second and Kim Estrada from STEM11D took home the first place title. As for the Photo and Poetry “Photoetry” competition, Alliyah Pauleen Izon from STEM11A, with the pen name “Helaina”, won third place, Patrick Jacinto, aka “Hiraya 2” from STEM11F, bagged second place, and lastly, Gerald Servado with the nickname “guess mE” from STEM12B was named the winner for the said competition. Lastly, for the Character Parade held earlier the same day, the champions were Wendell Luna from STEM11B and Justin Eric Acosta from STEM12A.
The program concluded with a closing remarks from Mr. Michael John Maglaque, General Education Area Learning Coordinator and a photo opportunity with all the attendees.
