Thursday, January 26, 2023 – There is no doubt that Filipinos are indeed talented in various aspects. One of them has gained recognition on the international stage, and that is film and television actress Dolly de Leon. Nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress, her outstanding performance in the film "Triangle of Sadness” gave her recognition and acknowledgments.
De Leon graduated from the prestigious University of the Philippines with a degree in theater arts. In addition, the late Tony Mabesa, a Filipino theater director and recipient of the National Artist Award, trained her to become an outstanding actress. Dolly played the character of Abigail, an overseas Filipino worker, or preferably called by many by the acronym "OFW," who works as a "toilet manager" for a splendor cruise ship that is conveying gunrunners, fashion models and other doubtful prerogatives for some individuals. An eminent award-giving body came nomination for this role along with Angela Bassett, Kerry Condon, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Carrey Mulligan.
Before she received these acknowledgments for the Golden Globe Awards, Dolly De Leon had also received various appreciations from international and local awards. In December 2022, she was the recipient of the Best Supporting Performer award by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, also for the movie "Triangle of Sadness," together with Ke Huy Quan of "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once." It was also in the same year that she was given the Breakthrough Performance Award at the Middleburg Film Festival. Along with this, she obtained the Best Supporting Actress award for the movie “Verdict” at the critically acclaimed FAMAS Awards, which are considered the Oscars in the Philippines in the year 2020.
To sum up, Dolly De Leon did a stellar job performing the characters given to her, which made her recognized not only in her own country but also around the globe. With this, she indeed proved that Filipinos are certainly world-class performers.
