My skills regarding technology vary from beginner level to advanced, depending on the type. I am very proficient with most of the Microsoft Office products and since starting this grad school journey I have become fairly proficient with all the Google applications. I can produce professional looking Power Points or Google Slides presentations with data graphs embedded into them if needed. On the communication page you can see examples of brochures I designed in MS Word. I am quickly becomming more adept at building web pages, and blogs. My experience in these two areas are limited to ETEC course work for the moment. As for the CAD program I used in the classes I taught for 10 years you could consider me a high intermediate to advanced proficiency user. I learned drafting by hand at a young age and the cross over to Computer Aided Drafting was intuitive for me.
The first two artifacts below are a lesson I designed for students to do on a day I had to miss school & my first ever Google Slide presentation.
This next artifact is a technology integration presentation I designed for ETEC562 Applying Instructional Media & Technology. Within the presentation are active links that will take you to all the supporting technology that would be used to teach a Project Based Learning class on Electronics. You will also find a link on the Learning Theories slide to a presentation my classmate Amy Daniel and I created on Seymour Papert's Constructionism beliefs.
The next artifacts are links to technology that I have learned to use for educational purposes in ETEC524 Intro to Educational Technology & ETEC527 Web 2.0 Technologies for Instruction. I made the YouTube channel to post project videos for ETEC524 & the Twitter account was created for ETEC527. The Blog was used for both classes.
It was a difficult journey learning to put my feelings "out there" for others to read in my Blog. I am not a very public person, so using the blog, YouTube, and Twitter has been stressful. I have used instructional videos from YouTube for both professional & personal reasons. My biggest difficulty using that platform was my slow internet connection. Uploading a video using a cell phone hot spot is not speedy. As for Twitter, I have done the work required for that platform and it was much less enjoyable to me. I doubt I will use it in the future.
This next artifact is a Problem Based Learning Project was developed in ETEC594 Technology & Inquiry Based Instructional Methods, and contains additional supporting artifacts within the site. Before taking this course I had always associated PBL with Project Based Learning. It is definitely two different methods that share the same acronym. Within the site linked above is everything needed to conduct a problem based lesson. Within it are active links that take you to the instructional support information, including the lesson plan and supporting documents for students to use. The best part about this lesson is that it can be used in conjunction with a Project Based Learning activity, giving the students access to both types of PBLs.
In ETEC526 Games & Simulations for Learning we discovered how to use "games" for educational purposes. Then once we learned the "how" we had to develop our own game. I was really blessed with a fantastic partner who grew up playing video games & was able to explain the ins & outs of what was going on. Below is a link to what we developed.
ETEC527 Web 2.0 Technologies is typically taken eariler in our degree program. Because of when I took some of my electives, I ended up taking this class concurrently in the same 7-week session as the ETEC596 Capstone class. And because it was taken concurrently with the Capstone course it was not required to be included in my portfolio. I learned a great deal about social networking technology (both good & bad) in this class. I wanted to showcase what I learned/developed and obtained permission to include it in my e-portfolio. I shared the entire folder since there were so many pieces to it. When you click on the link to access the folder the top link is to the MP4 presentation. The other components to the project appear below the presentation in the folder.
Below is a link to the final project folder containing all the required components which I developed for this course. Below that appears links to the Google Classroom, Google Slides Presentation, and the MP4 Digital Project components of the class. You can access all supporting documents and videos through the links within the Project Presentation Slide Show.
Reflection
I am much older than most of my classmates. Some forms of technology have been fairly easy for me to adapt to and learn. Out of the artifacts displayed in this section I enjoyed the Problem Based Learning Project the most. Other concepts have been much more difficult, even though I have witnessed the changes over the years in technology. Tetris & Pac Man were the only electronic games I played prior to taking the Gaming class. To say that this class was difficult for me would be an understatement, and it was by far the hardest class represented by artifacts in this section of my portfolio. I owe a great deal of what I learned to my project partner. Without his help I do not think I could have survived that course. Thank You Ben for being patient with me in class & helping me learn!
