Newsletter- Friday 11th February 2022
This week, as part of Children's Mental Health Week we have introduced our pupil wellbeing strategy, HAPPY. Each day the children have been introduced to each letter and completed some tasks to help explore what it means. Over the coming months, the children will be helping us to develop our strategy and ensure it becomes embedded in all we do.

Monday- H- Holistic Support
We want children to have life skills that will help them cope with any challenges they face. By doing this we are preparing children for the test of life, not a life of tests.
As part of this, all children throughout the school have been learning how to use sign language as a means of communication.
Tuesday - A - Aspirations
We want children to aim high and to work hard to fulfill their dreams. As adults, we want to support self-discovery and unlock potential in all of our children.
Wednesday - P - Physical Wellbeing
We want children to understand that being active is good for their bodies but also their minds. Adults need to ensure that physical wellbeing is more than just PE lessons.
Thursday - P - Positivity
As part of THRIVE, we want all of our children to be resilient. We want them to value the importance of positive thinking knowing this will help them to do everything better than negative thinking will. As part of this, the children generated artwork of happiness and hope to share with those living alone in the local community. If you know someone in this position, please let us know.
Friday - Y- You Matter
We want every child to know that their voice is heard. For this reason, we have introduced a wealth of pupil voice groups.
As adults, we want to ensure that every child in the school has a champion, someone to help them THRIVE.
Junior Citizen Day
On Thursday, Year 6 attended a Junior Citizen day hosted by Surrey Council where they learned important life skills from representatives from the Police, Fire Service, Health, Network Rail, and Lifeboat Services. The children had a great afternoon and were keen to share what they had learned.

Upcoming Dates
Tuesday 22nd February - Founders Day 2022
Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the worldwide Scout Movement, was born February 22nd 1857. Scouts worldwide — roughly 54 million in 161 countries — celebrate his birthday each year on Founder’s Day. We would therefore like to invite all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Rainbows, Brownies & Guides to come to school on Tuesday 22nd February 2022 wearing their club's uniform, to help celebrate Founders Day 2022.
Children can come to school dressed in their favourite book characters. (No uniform needed on this day).
Keeping your children safe online
Road Safety
Following another near miss involving a Shawley pupil, please can we ask parents to remind their children of the importance to stay alert and to be aware of hidden entrances or driveways crossing the pavement when walking to and from school. Thank you for your cooperation.
Shawley Fundraisers
School Lottery
Shawley's school lottery has been set up specifically to raise money and make a difference for our children! It's a fantastic way to bring parents, carers, staff and the wider community together, in partnership with our school, and at the same time give something back. We hope to raise funds that can support and enrich the education of our children - we aim to provide extra resources for the children, improve the school environment as well as run extracurricular activities such as music, art and sport.
Join today! Click here to access the Your School Lottery website to learn more about how it works and how to join.
Your support is greatly appreciated and we wish you good luck!
