Community Event- Children's Market - 9th July 2022

Last few places left....

Please see below an exciting opportunity for your child to put their entrepreneurial skills to good use. On 9th July 2022, we will be hosting our first-ever children's market at Shawley Community Primary, a market run by children for children and we have a few spaces left! It costs only £2 to have a stall and whatever your child makes on the day goes directly to them.

Your child could sell pre-loved toys, games or books or set up a games stall for a bit of fun. Perhaps they make jewellery, crafts, cookies or smoothies etc? A responsible adult must support each child on the day but the child is responsible for the selling, set up, signs and clearing away.

If your child does not fancy having a stall, why not come along with some cash to have a look around and support our mini entrepreneurs! This event is purely to bring the community together so we would love to see you there.

Cricket Tournament

Year 6 took part in the Reigate & Banstead - North Downs Cricket Competition at Banstead Cricket Club this week. The team worked extremely hard and made it to the semi-finals. Mr Warner has been so impressed by the skills they have developed this term and said it was great to see them in action. Well done to you all!

Year 2 Trip to Littlehampton

Year 2 enjoyed a trip to Littlehampton this Wednesday where they had the chance to explore the human and physical features of the coast. It was great to see them applying their prior knowledge and skills and also making new connections in their learning. Lots of fun was had too! A big thank you to the Year 2 team!

Making People Smile

Do you know someone or a group of people who live on their own? Do you know someone who could do with cheering up? Could we brighten their day by sending them a piece of artwork themed around 'Hope and Happiness'? We still have some pieces from our Pupil Wellbeing launch week and we want this to make people smile.

Please get in touch if you can help us share these with the local community.

Library Display

Did your child create a wooden spoon for book week? We were so impressed by them, we would like to use these for a display in our library. This would involve securing the spoon into a plant pot to go on display for all to see. If your child would not like to have their spoon on display and would rather take it home, please ask your child's class teacher to collect it next week.

Parent Govenor Appointment

We are pleased to announce that Susan Higgins has been elected as a Parent Governor. Susan has a daughter in Year 5 and is already an active member of the school community.

We look forward to having Susan on board to help drive improvements in our school.

Pupil Premium

Did you know your child could be eligible for pupil premium funding?

This is not just free school meals but also provides additional funding to schools to support your children's learning and development.

Why not take a look and fill in our form. It is quick for us to find out if you are eligible.

Depending on your circumstances, your child may qualify to have tasty, healthy school meals for free. It could save you more than £350 a year, and you won't need to worry about making packed lunches every day. Schools receive vital funding for their Pupil Premium pupils and even if you decide not to have the meals, we still receive an allocation in our Pupil Premium funding which goes towards supporting your child.

Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools so that they can support their disadvantaged pupils and close the attainment gap between them and their peers.

If you think that your child may be eligible for Free School Meals, please contact the school office for the relevant form.

Please click here for further information on Pupil Premium and who may be eligible.

Shawley's school lottery has been set up specifically to raise money and make a difference for our children! It's a fantastic way to bring parents, carers, staff and the wider community together, in partnership with our school, and at the same time give something back. We hope to raise funds that can support and enrich the education of our children - we aim to provide extra resources for the children, improve the school environment as well as run extracurricular activities such as music, art and sport.

Join today! Click here to access the Your School Lottery website to learn more about how it works and how to join.

Your support is greatly appreciated and we wish you good luck!

Attendance Matters

Attendance Matters

● Children with good attendance achieve more in their learning

● Time off disrupts learning for your child, and also for the rest of the class

● Children who miss school miss out on their right to a full education

● It is your legal responsibility to ensure that your child attends school regularly

● Persistent unauthorised absence could lead to court action, including fines

Attendance 96% to 100% - 0 to 7 days missed per year – your child’s good attendance will give them every chance of being a successful learner who makes good progress.

Attendance 92% to 95.9% - 8 to 15 days missed per year – you should try to improve your child’s attendance to make sure they have the best possible chance of success at school.

Attendance 90% to 91.9% - 16 to 19 days missed per year – your child’s attendance is dangerously close to falling to a level which can stop them making progress at school.

Attendance below 90% - 20 or more days missed per year – your child is considered a ‘persistent absentee’ in government statistics, and their poor attendance is putting them at serious risk of underachieving at school.

Please be aware that we will shortly be contacting families where attendance is a cause for concern.
