IMPORTANT- HEAT WAVE INFORMATION
As you are aware there are extremely high temperatures forecast for next Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th July. With this in mind, it is imperative that you must:
Send your child in with a sunhat (ones that provide shade for the face and neck are best). Unfortunately, children will have to stay in the shade if they do not have a hat.
Ensure your child has a bottle of water, they can refill these as often as they like.
Apply a high-factor sun cream to your child before they come to school. Children are able to bring sun cream to school if they are able to apply it themselves.
Shawley will be open as normal next week, however, we will be adapting the school timetable to take the hot weather into account.
Please watch out for an email from us containing advice from Surrey on managing during these extremely high tempreatures.
Shawley Children's Market
On Saturday 9th July we welcomed children from LEO schools and other local schools to take part in our first ever Children's Market, run by children, for children. Each child had to come up with their own business idea, sign up for a stall, gather everything they needed to run it on the day and also think about advertising.
We were blown away by the level of preparation, enthusiasm and professionalism that they all demonstrated. The children were so happy to be making their own money and some even talked about how they planned to grow their business online.
It was a fantastic community event and we look forward to running it again next year.
A big thank you to Mrs Maskell for helping with the planning, the Shawley Fundraisers for providing the refreshments and all the staff for helping to make the event such a huge success on the day.
We say goodbye to Year 6
Goodbye to Year 6
With the majority of Year 6 heading off to Isle of Wight next week, we celebrated the end of their primary journey this week instead. We are so grateful to have had such an amazing group of children move through our school and to hear all of the staff talk about them in such a positive light just demonstrates their strengths.
It has been a busy week with memory pebble painting, pizza making, a trip to Chessington, a leavers disco, and a leavers assembly. The children have been phenomenal and we are so proud of each and every one of them!
Now to continue to be the best versions of yourselves in all that you do, go get them year 6!
End of Key Stage 2 Assessment (Unvalidated National Curriculum Tests)
Finally, we are delighted to share that our Year 6 children have performed very well in this year’s National Curriculum Tests for 11 year olds. The results were published on Tuesday 5th July and are currently unvalidated at this point.
Each test has a different number of questions and marks available and the results are converted to a scaled score. It is this scaled score that is reported to Year 6 parents and is used nationally to see how well a school has performed. The scaled score gives an indication of how children have achieved against the nationally expected standard. A score of 100 represents the expected standard (EXS). Scores of 110 or above indicate pupils are working at ‘Greater Depth’ (GDS). Scores below 100 indicate that children have not yet met the expected standard for their age (WTS). The highest score a child can achieve is 120, with 80 being the lowest.
At Shawley Community Primary many of our children have met, or got close to meeting, the national standards. We are exceptionally proud of how well they have done this year and in particular the progress they have made from their starting points. Their results indicate that the vast majority of them are well prepared for secondary school. They should be congratulated on their achievements.
Reception Graduation
Earlier in the week, the children in Panda's class graduated in front of their parents/carers. It was so lovely to hear Mrs. Morina talk about the knowledge and skills they have developed this year.
A big well done to you all and a big thank you to the Early Years staff for putting the event together.
Surrey School Games
Earlier this week, our Badminton and Physifun teams took part in the Surrey School Games where they engaged with a variety of different physical activities. The children had lots of fun and they were excited to get to meet @LucyWood14 who shared her silver Commonwealth Games medal with them. They also had the opportunity to ask lots of great questions.

Staff Spotlight
Each week get to know one of our Shawley Staff Members a little bit more...
Meet Mrs Cobbold
A little bit about me: I have only been teaching for 3 years. Before I became a teacher I I worked at The Children’s Trust in Tadworth for 10 years helping children recover after brain injuries. I have always loved being outdoors and so I have loved setting up Forest School at Shawley.
My Favourites
Hobbies - I spend a lot of time outdoors with my family. We love hiking, wild swimming and camping. I also used to have a horse and as a child I used to ski for a ski club so I still love riding and skiing.
Food - My favourite meal is probably either Sunday Roast or a Swiss raclette. I do have a sweet tooth and love gooey chocolate brownies.
Drink - I love a nice cup of tea!
Colour - Purple
Animal - Swallows - where I grew up the arrival of swallows always signified the start of spring. They are amazing to watch fly around!
Books - I love Winnie-the-Pooh books. They are set in the Ashdown Forest which is somewhere I love to walk.

Shawley Fundraisers
Sunflower Competition Winners
We were delighted to see your sunflowers thriving! The children have done a great job of tending to them (some with a little help from mums and dads!)
The winner with the tallest sunflower at 137cm was Oscar Burn - well done Oscar!
Bethany Young also won the prize for the one who tended to her sunflower without any help - fantastic job Bethany!
Shawley's school lottery has been set up specifically to raise money and make a difference for our children! It's a fantastic way to bring parents, carers, staff and the wider community together, in partnership with our school, and at the same time give something back. We hope to raise funds that can support and enrich the education of our children - we aim to provide extra resources for the children, improve the school environment as well as run extracurricular activities such as music, art and sport.
Join today! Click here to access the Your School Lottery website to learn more about how it works and how to join.
Your support is greatly appreciated and we wish you good luck!
Penalty Notices
Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), they will be liable to receive a penalty notice.
Currently the amount payable under a penalty notice is £60.00 per parent/carer per child if paid within 21 days. Thereafter the amount increases to £120.00 if paid between 21 and 28 days. If the penalty notice remains unpaid after 28 days, the Local Authority will consider a prosecution in the Magistrates Court.
Please note that penalty notices are issued per parent/carer per child so a family of two parents and two children will receive 4 penalty notices.
