Rachel Bright
Rachel Bright is a wordsmith, illustrator and professional thinker of happy thoughts, Rachel grew up in Shropshire. She attended New College, where she concentrated on art; she later trained in graphics at Kingston University. Rachel also received a Masters Degree in Printmaking

Our 'Composer of the Month' for June is...
Franz Joseph Haydn
Haydn was born in a small town in Austria. His father made wooden carts and wagon wheels. Haydn's father loved music and played the harp for his friends and neighbors. His mother was a cook.
When he was 8, Joseph (he didn't go by Franz) went to school in Vienna. The school he went to, The Vienna Boys Choir School, still exists today.
Joseph was always getting into trouble at school because he loved to play jokes on people. In fact, when he was a teenager he got thrown out of school because he cut off another boy's ponytail!

What Music Means to Me!
To celebrate the London Borough of Sutton's Cultural Impact Award 2023: Sutton Steams Ahead, Sutton Music Trust is looking for images from young people that illustrate what music means to them.
Brief: Create one original image (A4 size):
That illustrates what music means to you and why it is important. Be creative!
It could be a photograph, drawing, painting, computer design, or collage.
A short caption (1 -2 sentences) that explains what music means to you.
Your full first name, the initial of your first name, school name and year group.
Incorporate the hashtag #SuttonSTEAMsAhead
How will my image be used?
Your image will be displayed as part of an exhibition on 1st July as part of Shed Loads of Happiness. It will be on the Sutton Music Trust website and will be stored in the borough's digital archive as a record of how young people from Sutton feel about music in 2023.

Tuesday 13th June
Cheam Fields can’t wait to join @Sutton_Music for this year’s KS2 Big Sing - Magical Music. In June, the children will take to the stage to perform a selection of specially arranged arias from Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’, accompanied by a chamber orchestra from @RoyalOperaHouse.
The performance will take place on Tuesday 13th June in St Andrews Church, Northey Avenue, Cheam. SM2 7HF. The concert starts at 11.30am and is due to finish at 12.30pm. Tickets for the concert are available through Eventbrite - doors open at 11.15am for the concert. Please click on the link below to purchase tickets.

Audition Workshops for ROH Youth Opera Programmes 22nd and 23rd July 2023
The Royal Opera House is delighted to invite children aged 7-11 with a passion for the performing arts to audition for our Youth Opera programmes this July. This programme is completely free for all members and no experience or knowledge of opera is required, just a love of singing and performing and an enthusiasm to explore and create opera with the ROH.

· Submitting your application (deadline 12pm Fri 9th June 2023): Complete this form to express your child’s interest in auditioning. The form requires you to submit a short 30 second video of your child singing the ‘Happy Birthday’ song.
· Round 1 audition (Sat 22nd July): successful applicants will be invited to a one-hour audition workshop at the Royal Opera House.
· Round 2 audition (Sun 23rd July): successful applicants from the round 1 auditions will be invited to attend a call back audition, during which the final selections will be made.

SamiArt is supporting the new sustainable shopping market, The Northend Market, in High Street, Sutton (near ASDA) with creative play on a Wonderland-theme. These free sessions will run from 10:00am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 3:00pm on the last Saturday of every month until August.
For each session they will be joined by a local Guest Artist.
