The government provides funding so that all infant children are eligible for a free school dinner throughout their time from Reception to Year 2. However, once your child reaches Year 3, school meals are no longer free. If a family receives certain benefits, they can become eligible for ‘Free School Meals’ which means that meals from Year 3 onwards would not need to be paid for by you.
In addition to this, if you are entitled to ‘Free School Meals’, this attracts something called ‘Pupil Premium’. The school receives funding from the Government to support the school and in turn the children. The school uses this money in a variety of ways for example providing additional staff to support the children in their development, extra learning provisions and resources in school and at the discretion of the Principal sometimes support towards paying for activity clubs, trips, music lessons and for extended schools and holiday clubs. This makes a lot of difference to your child, to you and to the school.
Due to the system of free school meals for all infant children many parents are not registering their entitlement to Pupil Premium. This in turn means the school does not get the Pupil Premium funding and therefore we are unable to support your child in ways we would like to.
Your financial circumstances may have changed and you may not even realise that this is an option available to you. Please complete this form Free School Meals & Pupil Premium Application Form if you believe you are eligible to claim for Free School Meals. With your permission we can apply on your behalf but require a fully completed form in order to do so.
Alternatively you can complete the online application form directly with the London Borough of Sutton. Further information and the LBS application form can be found here: www.sutton.gov.uk/pupilpremium
