This meeting is a chance for you to find out everything you need to know about your child starting school in September. We politely ask that you do not bring your child or any siblings to the meeting.
The welcome meeting will include valuable information about the school's policies, procedures, expectations, curriculum, and routines. This knowledge equips you to better support your child's school experience.
You will be able to go into your child’s classroom to meet the team and have an opportunity to meet your child's teacher(s) in a more formal setting. You can introduce yourself and ask any initial questions you might have about the classroom or your child's learning.
The welcome meeting is a chance to connect with other parents whose children will be in the same class as your child. This can be a great way to build a support network, share experiences, and feel less alone, especially if you're new to the school or area.
Uniform will also be available to view and you will be able to sample our School Meals.
In order for us to prepare for the meeting, if you have any questions that you would like to be covered, please complete this form
Attending the welcome meeting is an investment in your child's smooth transition to school. It allows you to be a more informed and involved parent, which ultimately benefits your child's academic and social success.

We carry out a home visit for all children starting in Reception who are new to Cheam Fields. We do not visit children who have attended our Nursery. This will be a chance for you to meet individually with your child’s teacher in your home environment.
Why do we have home visits?
A home visit from your teacher before starting school offers advantages for both you and your child.
For your child:
School can be a big, new place for little ones. Having their teacher visit them at home, where they feel comfortable and safe, allows them to meet their teacher in a relaxed setting. This can help reduce anxiety and make them feel more at ease about starting school.
The home visit allows your child to interact with their teacher outside of the classroom environment. This can help them build a rapport and feel more comfortable approaching their teacher for help or to chat.
During the visit, the teacher can observe your child playing with their favorite toys or books. This gives them insights into your child's interests and learning style, which can be helpful when planning lessons.
For you:
The home visit provides a chance for you to chat with the teacher one-on-one. You can ask questions about the curriculum, routines, or any concerns you might have. It also allows the teacher to share information about your child's upcoming school experience.
If your child has any specific needs, such as allergies, the home visit is a perfect opportunity to discuss them with the teacher in a private setting. This can help ensure a smooth transition for your child and allow the teacher to provide the necessary support.
The home visit fosters a sense of partnership between you and the teacher. It shows the teacher's commitment to your child's education and opens the door for ongoing communication throughout the school year.
Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th July 2025, 3.30pm - 4pm
We are delighted to invite you and your child to visit their new classroom and play in the learning environment. You are welcome to attend both sessions if you wish, there is no need to pre-book.
Why come to the stay and play sessions?
There are many benefits to attending a stay and play session before your child starts Reception, for both you and your child. Here are some of the key advantages:
For your child:
The unfamiliar environment and routine of school can be daunting for young children. Stay and play sessions allow them to explore the classroom, meet the teachers and other children in a relaxed setting with you by their side. This familiarity can significantly reduce first-day jitters and ease the transition into school life.
Stay and play sessions often involve activities and toys similar to what your child will experience in Reception. This gives them a taste of the learning environment and can spark their curiosity about school.
For you:
Witnessing the classroom setup, teaching methods, and interaction between teachers and children can alleviate any anxieties you may have about sending your child to school.
These sessions are a great way to meet other parents whose children will be in the same Reception class as yours. This can help build a support network and ease any feelings of isolation, especially if you're new to the area.
Stay and play sessions are a fantastic way to prepare your child for a smooth transition into Reception offering an opportunity to meet your child's teacher in a relaxed setting.

The most important part of the induction process is making sure that all children feel comfortable and safe in our school, whilst at the same time allowing them to experience the fun and exciting learning opportunities that we have to offer.
It is for this reason that we do a staggered intake for the first couple of weeks of term to allow us to settle the children in small groups. Our experience tells us that this is the best way to ensure that all children settle with ease and become confident to engage in their exciting learning journey with us. Whilst we understand that some of your children may have already been full time in a Nursery or pre-school setting, we kindly ask that you understand that we want all children to have the same chance to settle and for some of our children this will be their first ever experience of a setting.
Please complete the Admissions Form (if you have more than one child joining us, please complete one form per child).
If your child is currently attending a Nursery setting (other than Cheam Fields Nursery), please complete this form.

At Cheam Fields Primary Academy, we're fortunate to have a thriving PTFA (Parent Teacher and Friends Association) that plays a vital role in our school community. Over the years, their incredible fundraising efforts have generated tens of thousands of pounds, directly benefiting our students.
But the PTFA is about more than just fundraising. It fosters strong connections between home and school, providing a wonderful opportunity for staff, parents, and friends to come together socially and work towards a shared goal: supporting Cheam Fields Primary Academy. It's also a lot of fun! Just ask any of the committee members or volunteers.

The Government provides Universal Free School meals for pupils attending state funded primary schools in London.
Children will receive the Universal Free School Meal entitlement automatically but it is important for parents on a low income, or who are getting certain benefits, to apply for the Means Tested Free School Meals.
If eligible for Means Tested Free School Meals, your child's school will get additional funding through 'Pupil Premium' - up to £1300. That's extra money to spend on enrichment activities, teacher development and targeted support for the children that need it most.
What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools by central Government. Please click here for more information about eligibility.
Schools use this funding in a variety of ways. For example, some schools offer discounted school trips, clubs or music lessons for children registered for Pupil Premium. This funding can help your child, but the process is not automatic – you need to apply.
How do I apply?
If you think your child may be eligible, and would like the school to apply on your behalf, please complete this form. Please complete one form for each child in the school.
Alternatively, you can apply directly to the London Borough of Sutton Website
