Following the practise expedition in May, it became abundantly clear that there would have to be some ironing out of problems in order to be successful in the qualifier. Map reading proved slightly more difficult out in the wilds of Kent, then in an academy classroom and resilience was definitely something that needed to be worked on! However, giving the students their due, they came back stronger, more compass aware, determined to be resilient and finish the expedition.
To celebrate the huge achievement out in the field, here are some pictures from the students' camping expedition
This first cohort of Dof E students have thoroughly demonstrated the ethos of The Leigh Academy by opening their minds to success through showing respect for each other, their environment and the bronze award itself, resilience in the face of adversity and taking responsibility for themselves and each other whilst in unknown locations.
We wish them well as they complete their skills, volunteering and physical challenges to fully acheive their Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze Award.
It's a big thumbs up from us all!
