On Saturday the 7th May 2022, our first group of intrepid explorers set off from a rural location in Kent, to complete the practise expedition for their DofE Bronze Award.
After the final instructions were given by Mr Hills, our risk-takers set off, backpacks full to bursting and maps and compasses in hand!
After confirming the difference between horses and cows, the students marched away to begin their orienteering adventures in the Kent countryside.
As the day progressed, the groups reached their checkpoints and left their tags for their group leaders to collect. Being thoughtful communicators is important at this point, so that the DofE staff knew that everyone and everything was going well.
Some interesting comments were included!
At checkpoints, the groups were given the opportunity to take more water on board and have a brief rest before continuing on their journey in search of the campsite, rest and dinner!
Back at the campsite, and after reflecting on the day's events, the task of constructing the overnight accommodation commenced. Putting up a tent is never an easy task...
Dinner time!
Day 2:
The following morning saw the intrepid explorers battling tiredness from camping on hard floors. However, this did not dampen their enthusiasm and after packing up their tents, the students set off for a day of orienteering. Then back home to hot showers, decent food and warm, comfortable beds!
I am sure that this weekend's events will allow a lot of reflection, ready for the qualiflier in July
Well done Team Leigh @DofE!
You have done yourselves and the Academy proud.
Here's looking forward to the qualifier expedition in July
