Welcome to The Leigh Academy Duke of Edinburgh's Award Webpage
The Leigh Academy has always recognised that formal academic education is just one part of the development of well rounded young people. As important, are the extra-curricular experiences that we are able to provide for our students.
The Leigh Academy is delighted to be able to offer the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme to our students, supported by a team of dedicated teachers, led by Mr Christopher Hills.
The Award is widely recognised by Further Education, Higher Education establishments and employers and is a valuable addition to CVs. Achieving a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is not only a huge personal achievement but it can support young people beyond school into employment. Students have to be risk-takers, great communicators and reflective in order to complete the DofE to the highest standard.
Most importantly of all, participants involved in the Award have a lot of fun!

We currently offer:
The Bronze Award is available for Year 9 Leigh Academy students.
In 2022, we have had 30 students take part in the DofE Bronze Award. They have attended training sessions after school to prepare themselves for the rigours of camping, orienteering and teamwork and completed tasks on the eDofE app.
The next DofE Bronze Award will be available to Year 9 students from September 2022.
For costings, please click on the 'cost' tab at the top of the homepage.
Our future DofE offer:
From September 2022, we are offering the Silver Award to Year 10 students. Year 10 students do not have to have completed the Bronze Award to take part, however, it will take approximately 6 months longer to complete without previous DofE experience.
For costings, please click on the 'cost' tab at the top of the homepage.
*UPDATE:
We are extending our offer for the DofE Bronze Award to 60 Year 9 students this year. The Deadline for applications is Friday 26th September.
This is your child's chance to make some memories of a lifetime but hurry! Places are filling up fast!

The Year Ahead for DofE @theLeigh
This year, for the first time ever, we have two cohorts of students preparing to tackle the challenges of The Duke of Edinburgh Awards - one bronze and one silver. We are immensely proud of the bronze award winners who, having braved the bronze award, are now tackling the silver. This means longer hours of preparation, skill learning, volunteering and an even longer expedition: two nights and three days away from the comfort of their own homes, their own beds, and hot running water.
Please join us in wishing the students the best of luck, and we look forward to celebrating an evening more special Duke of Edinburgh Awards evening next year.
