LU Make-A-Thon

Collaborate • Create • Compete

LU Make-A-Thon (now Lehigh Springboard) is the first event of its kind at Lehigh University, started by New Ventures Club in 2018. This competition is a student-led effort by six student organizations and is sponsored by PC Rossin College of Engineering, Baker Institute, and Wilbur Powerhouse Design Lab.

What is Make-A-Thon?

Inspired by the traditional Hackathon, LU Make-A-Thon is a 24-hour design competition where teams and individuals are challenged to create physical solutions to problems relating to a certain theme. The best ideas and execution will earn prizes at the end of the competition. Participants do not have to be a programmer or an engineer to win the competition. Regardless of their backgrounds, anyone can make a difference. That is the vision of LU Make-A-Thon.

Who are the participants?

The participants comprise of undergraduate students from various academic disciplines and class years. While each team may have different experience and come from different background, the participants were required to engage in two workshops over a few month to form a common foundation for a successful Make-A-Thon project. These workshops include “Design Thinking by Baker Institute” and “Tooling and Prototyping by Wilbur Design Lab”. On the weekends of competition, the teams begin designing solutions and creating prototypes using tools and materials available in MakerSpace, Wilbur Powerhouse.
