I love to use short stories to further practice skills the students learn in Journeys. Since the textbook is kept at school, students are not able to annotate directly in the story. However, studying these stories give me an opportunity to print out a copy of the story that the students can write in. This has given them the opportunity to make deeper connections with the plot, characters, and understanding of the text.
Like Journeys, students will be expected to complete tests over the stories we read. In class activities and homework will also be given out as we study.
Below, I have links to the short stories we may be reading this year. If you wish, you may preview the text before we read it in class. If you or your student does not feel comfortable with the story, they will be sent to another class to complete an alternative assignment. (If we choose to study that story in class.) There is a form below that you may fill out concerning this. :)
