January 2021 Initial meeting with juniors to present EE and give timeline Students should be creating a list of at minimum 3 areas of interest that could possibly be the basis of their EE.
January 2021 Students are introduced to the research process, available databases and begin research on 3 subject areas that they would be “happy to write in”. Students will research their 3 areas of interest, topics and possible research questions. Preliminary research should also include determining what has been published on their topic and work out 3 possible research questions, one for each subject area of interest.
February 2021 Students will submit at least 3 areas of interest and topics to Mr. Whittamore/Mr. Collins.
March 2021 Supervisors will be determined.
March 2021 Students make first contact with EE supervisors for their chosen area and discuss research topics and possible research questions. Students should also review the EE subject specific requirements from the EE Guide and discuss any questions they may have at this supervisors meeting. Supervisors are encouraged to discuss meeting expectations, EE requirements, subject specific methodology, and acceptable research questions. Supervisors may also establish their own deadlines in addition to this timeline but are asked not to move up the deadlines for the annotated bibliography or the outline because the students will be working on them and presenting them in TOK.
April 2021 Students meet with supervisors for the First Formal Reflection Session. Supervisors please review the EE Guide for dialogue tips during the First Formal Reflection Session. Within 24 hours of this meeting, students are required to complete their First Formal Reflection on the RPPF (Planning and Progress Form) on ManageBac. This reflection should not exceed 150 words. Supervisors are required to review the reflection after it has been submitted. No identifying information should be recorded in this reflection.
May 2021 Students should have an acceptable research question and an annotated bibliography. Research questions must be added to their ManageBac page (edit Extended Essay Proposal) along with their annotated bibliography. Supervisors should provide feedback on the submitted annotated bibliography.
August 2021 Students submit a detailed outline to their EE page on ManageBac. Students will learn the requirements and have to present their detailed outline in TOK. Supervisors should provide feedback on the submitted outline. Students should meet with their supervisor to discuss their outline.
October 1 , 2021 Students submit their first complete draft of their EE to ManageBac. The draft must be formatted correctly according to the EE requirements. All drafts will be checked for plagiarism using Safeassign (TBA).
October 2021 Students will need to meet with their supervisors to discuss their first complete draft and to complete the Interim Reflection Session. Students should bring their SafeAssign results to this meeting. Supervisors please review the EE Guide for dialogue tips during the Interim Reflection Session. Within 24 hours of this meeting, students are required to complete their First Formal Reflection on the RPPF (Planning and Progress Form) on ManageBac. This reflection should not exceed 150 words. Supervisors are required to review the reflection after it has been submitted. No identifying information should be recorded in this reflection.
December 6, 2021 Students submit their revised EE FINAL FINAL copy to be submitted to IB for grading. No editing or changes are allowed beyond this date.
December 2021 Students must meet with their supervisor to complete the Viva Voce (Final Reflection Session). Supervisors please review the EE Guide for dialogue tips during the Final Reflection Session. Within 24 hours of this meeting, students are required to complete their Final Reflection on the RPPF (Planning and Progress Form) on ManageBac. This reflection should not exceed 200 words. After this meeting and reading the candidate’s Final Reflection on the RPPF form, supervisors are required to assess the EE using the Assessment Rubric and fill out the Supervisor's Comments on the Assessment tab on ManageBac. Please remember that no identifying information is allowed in the comments. Supervisors please notify Mr. Collins as you finish the process for each of your candidates.Where are you now in the research process?
